If the maps are from Magellan you can reinstall them from Magellan support.
If your maps are from somewhere else, like Maps4Me, save them somewhere either on your hard drive, a flash drive, memory card or CD.

Then delete C:Documents and SettingsYourNameMy DocumentsVantagePoint folder.

Then go to C:ProgramsMagellan and delete that. You can reinstall everything when you reinstall VP. Make sure VP lite is deleted.

Get a new download for VP from Magellan and reinstall it.

In short, save what you can't get from Magellan, then start from scratch with VP & Magellan.

That's the only thing that worked for me anyway.

what files exactly did you find and remove to get the program working again

If you have problems with VP re-installation you have to delete C:Documents and SettingsYourNameMy DocumentsVantagePoint folder.
Uninstall don't delete that folder. Just beware that you will also delete all installed maps in VP.

I don't remember exactly what I removed, everything & anything that was from Magellan.

I saved map files and other stuff on a flash card.

Then I waded through the hard drive removing any file, app or program I suspected was possibly, somehow causing a problem.

I also got rid of a lot of stuff I have not used in over a year.

So, I have no idea what, if anything, was causing the problem!

I too have had nothing but problems with VP. I've also uninstalled and re-installed it many many time.
Phild31.. what files exactly did you find and remove to get the program working again?

Thanks,
..garry..

Yeah, the cache page pictures are good.
I'm really happy I can load tracks back & forth from GPSr to VP.

I'm getting used to slapping myself on the forehead and saying D'OH ! :pinch:

Or as Ralph Cramden would say, I've got a BIG MOUTH

In a few weeks I'll screw-up something else and rant & rave again.

While waiting for my sore back to recover from fixing my garage roof I decided to finish setting up a refurbished 'Toughbook' laptop for use in my truck.
Just for chuckles I installed VP on it and VP works perfectly!
No freeze-up, no crashes, loads pictures to the 710, loads tracks & routes from 710 and loads PQs properly.

So, I thought why does it work on an old laptop running XP and not on the newer one running Vista?

I figured a little more pain from VP would take my feeble mind off my back so I reinstalled VP.
NO good. 🙁
I went rooting around the PC and dumped anything & everything that even smelled like 'Magellan' plus a few programs and apps I no longer use.
Reinstalled VP.

It works! :cheer:

I did this a week ago but must of missed a corrupted file or something else causing my problems?

I still get no attributes on VP but that's the only issue I've had.

I still don't like VP but at least it now works without crashing every other time I use it.
The one thing I've always liked was to play back tracks & routes on the map so I'm reasonably happy with it now. 🙂

And my back feels much better, time to finish the Massachusetts county challenge caches. B)

Wow, thats interesting, it seems to be doing what I need it to do but I have to admit that the program doesn't allow you to modify it much but something may have happened either to VP or your gps to cause an issue. Mind joining me in chat and maybe we can figure it out?

I appreciate the offer to help but I've given up on VP, I'm going to remove it from my pc and never reinstall it again.
If it's my GPSr then it would have to be all of them, Triton 2000, eXplorist GC and eXplorist 710, VP won't work right with any of them!
Over many months I've had it crash for no apparent reason dozens of times, I've reinstalled it, updated it, reinstalled it several more times and it has never been any use.

I've had it with this useless piece of bad programing.

Thanks again but I can live without VP.

I can't get VP to do much of anything.
Can't load pictures to my 710.
Can't load tracks from 710 to VP.
Can't load media in any form from 710 to VP or VP to 710.

There are no bugs on VP, Vantage Point is just a totally useless program that should be exterminated and replaced with anything that might be halfway useful!!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE either fix or replace Vantage point, it's never been any good!
