Killing off VP Lite is easy if you open task manager, right click on VP Lite and select 'end process'.

Once it has been switched off in task manager, the uninstall will continue and should remove it.

VP worked fine for me for the 1st week with the new 510, then whenever I plugged in it would crash, I tried connecting the GPS first, then starting VP, but no luck with that either.

In the end I uninstalled VP, VP lite, all the backups and anything with Magellan in the name, then re-installed it all. Now it will connect to the GPS with no issues, but trying to delete waypoints in VP will make it crash. Sync-ing the GPS to VP will also make it crash. I think the older version of VP was more stable than this one.

VP version 2.19 has worked for months for me without any problems what so ever since I updated to it.

But I would suggest you make sure you have the latest Magellan NMEA Driver installed.

That didn't work either. Windows wouldn't let me delete it because of files in use. I had to use msconfig to keep VP lite from launching on startup, reboot, and THEN sanitize all of the Magellan software from my computer.

I reinstalled VP this time. I REALLY hope it works out since I do like the way it works. Have the bugs that make it crash every two weeks or so been worked out?

Go into c:Program Files(x86)MagellanVantagePointVPLite and delete the executable files in the directory and then reboot your computer and try again.

BTW, I also can't uninstall VP because the uninstaller tells me that Vantage Point Lite is currently using some of the files I need. I see VP Lite in my start menu, but when I click it I'm told that program is already running. I can't see the program running anywhere. It doesn't even show up in Task Manager, so I'm at a loss for how to shut it down.

My Vantage Point was working fine and up to date yesterday. Today it crashes every time I plug in my ex510. To be specific, I click "connect to pc" on the 510, a few seconds go by, and my computer makes the trumpet noise that means a USB device has been connected. VP crashes exactly when that connection happens.

If I disconnect the 510 VP can start normally, but if I click the update button it crashes again. I CAN connect to geocaching.com through VP without crashing, so I don't think it's a firewall issue.

The nature of the crash is simply a pop up window telling me that VP has quit working and Windows is looking for a solution. After a few seconds Windows gives up and I have to close the program.

I've scanned this forum for solutions. I tried deleting the .dat file in documents -> VP -> Users -> User1, but that did not help. I also tried switching USB ports to no avail.
