I would like to see the user defined icons be capable of performing more than one action at a time, i.e. macros?

For example, I would like to reset the trip odometer, trip time, odometer and create new track with a single step. There may be other combinations that others can think of but this is the one that I would use a lot.

Referring to this LINK , my suggestion is, that those features needs to be implemented into both VP and the eXplorist firmware. This would be so B) .

Ok, here is what I need to have:

1. The ability to select different maps for different profiles.
- When geocaching, I'd love to use a HD-TOPO or aerial maps.
- When in vehicle mode, I need to have the city-series map.
- When in boating mode, I'd love to take some kind of marine charts.
When I am able to assign special maps to special profiles, it would make the workflow much smoother.

2. Give us a button "screen lock", on the power-off screen. (Press power button displays the power-off screen, selecting screen lock, returns to the last seen screen and locks the screen)

What do you think about?

Back on topic for this thread.....

Couple of items that came to mind:

1) Granted, we're told they're working on a stylus friendly one page keyboard. However, if they're going to keep the paged keyboard function present, it'd be really nice to have a page for user programmable keyboard macros where it'd auto populate a commonly used phrase.

2) The possibility of selecting criteria to automatically switch between profiles. I'm not sure if this would work for what I have in mind. I like to keep tracks for the distance traveled on foot but often forget to pause it before driving to the next area (or resume when getting to the next one.) I was thinking of having the profile mode change being the means to toggle this automatically and possible a slew of other items. Whether this toggling happen based on speed or something else, flexibility would be the key. However, I'd like to see other things work better before adding this complexity.

3) Starting to wish I could assign calibrate compass to a hard button. It'd be nice to be able to assign any menu option at any level to a hard button as we all use these a bit differently.

I believe it may have more to do with the change over to the update!

I had absolutely no real problems until I installed the update! 🙁
When I re-installed it I got different problems!
These problems I'm having now are the third set of different problems I've had with 3 re-installations of the update.

I don't have the faintest idea of what could be causing it.
But it works if I remember to not do the wrong things at the wrong times.
So now I'm not going to do anything until someone comes up with an update to fix this update.

I have bench tested the "Cancel Route" in vehicle mode without any problems. I believe it may have more to do with the change over from GPS to electronic compass sensor.

No, it happens every time when I'm in Vehicle mode/profile and cancel route.
When I'm in geocaching mode/profile it happens only half the time!
So I never 'Cancel Route' anymore.
Instead I start a new route to a cache, mark it as found/unfound and do not tap find nearest cache.
That's the only way I can cancel a route before I get to the end of it.

When I do 'Cancel Route' the unit stops tracking movement of any kind, compass/map spins wildly and all my settings go to default!
Then I need a computer to delete the corrupted files to get the unit to work again.

No matter what you have set before.

Indy,

That is not normal behavior for my 710.

When the unit's settings have gone to default, when it has corrupted files, I have found that deleting UGDS.BIN and Magellan_Geocache_Extention.GPX files restores all my settings from default to what I had set before.

Yes, my firmware is the newest 4.83 version.

My device behaves as I described. No matter what to set and where to place a hook or not, tracking is activated and displayed after each waypoint.

That's what drives me crazy. Grrrrrrrrrr... 😉

What must be very frustrating for Magellan is to repond to wishes for equal devices that behave differently.
I have now tried my eX710 (newest software) extensively, and no matter what I do, the track does not show up when I have used "Pause track" and "not show on map".
I can tun it off, start new routes (hiking or car routing) and the track stays away. And when checking the Active Track, it does not add points. So in my meaning it's turned off.
The only way to get the track back to normal for me is to hit "Resume Track" to start it, and either delete the Active Track or set it to show on map to make it do so.

Do you have the newest software ? If not, you should consider the problem as solved, as I hope that all devices with the same version behave the same.

Just an idle question, why do you want to turn tracking off?

Because I don't need it every time starting a route. And it is not very amusing to turn it off after each waypoint.

But the most important thing is: I am nerved by the displayed track.

On my device "Pause Track" does exactly that.

Unfortunately only til you start a new routing. There is no way to turn it off completely.

The selection of activated maps should be stored in the profiles.

There should be an option to switch off tracking completely.

The one touch menu buttons should be configurable for anything you can reach through the menu system. Right now it is limited to pretty high level functions like "camera", but you ought to be able to put "cancel route" on one of those buttons and you can't.

Although easier access to "cancel route" would just give an easier way to mistakenly erase your logs.txt file in the current state of the FW.
