Just my 2 cents worth on this ranting.... Pag...not all companies are like that over here. Most of the time (seems like to me anyway), you'll ONLY get a one way communication route. Most companies either don't have either the manpower to answer all the questions directly due to the sheer number of requests or in some cases just plain don't care. Not saying they don't care but perhaps they have a smaller workforce. They way the current economy is I'd be suprised if they hadn't downsized at least in some fashion or another.

Something else to consider is that you're requests are being made on a 3rd party website that's not ran by Magallan. We just so happen to have a great guy on here that is friends with someone at Magallan and is forwarding good suggestions/comments on to them. All that we're doing here is talking amongst one another like in a volunteer support group that's not affiliated with Magellan directly. I think that if you are wanting the two way communication then you should direct the questions directly to Magellan on their website via opening a ticket under the support tab or via Contact Us and there's even entries for europe support. That way you'll get exactly what you're asking for.

I know it. But we all want to two-way communication. It would be helpful to know the opinion of managers about our proposals. Maybe they do not understand our needs.
Ultimately, the buyer chooses not the most beautiful and heaped up the device. In GPS the most important reliability, convenience and efficiency of management.
Still have respect for the brand. It is defined as the minimum minor bugs and annoyances. This is a direct way to increase sales.

I would like to reiterate its suggestions.
I would like to know whether we know about them to developers?
They are taken or the developers do not agree with them.

1. Management screens in the eXplorist 310 and GC borrowed from devices with touchscreen. Touch screens can switch to any screen in the main menu with two clicks. In 310 to select the desired screen requires long-term manipulation of the joystick. We have already discussed this and felt keystrokes.
I propose to use in the main menu, press "Zoom +" to switch to the map screen, press "Zoom-" to switch to the dashboard.
In the dashboard press "Zoom +" to switch to the next dashboard, "Zoom-" to the previous dashboard.
This is simply implemented in the program, but very strongly accelerate the use of the device.

2. It should be added to the list of functions called by the long Enter (long press on the joystick) "Show Compass (On / Off)" and "Search Nearby".
These functions are often used.

3. Running or Active Suspend Timer or the Power Off Timer.
That is, if the device is switched to the energy saving mode (Suspend), then Power Off Timer does not already work, and the device to eat all the batteries.
The device is successfully activated in a bag or backpack. As a result, I regularly find myself discharged batteries.
Off power on Power Off Timer should work in a mode of Susupend.

4. Irritating asking the question about the type of Connection of each connecting cable, especially in the case of Power Only. At competitions GPS-orientation have to disconnect the device and connect every 10 minutes.
It should be added to the configuration of "Connectivity" one more option "Ask me when connecting". Ask only in this case. In other cases, connect to the selected mode, no questions asked.
NMEA mode to make a separate item in the connection settings (NMEA On/Off). He may or not may operate in Power Only.

5. Turning off the lights, "Suspend Timer" and "Power Off Timer" should not work in Power Only mode.

Thanks to Charles very useful tip,
https://www.exploristforum.com/.....38;id=5714
it is very possible to just turn the backlight on without
invoking the 4 corner menu by just tapping the bar at the top.
This is so much better. Kudos to Charles!

Don't know about other people but just this past weekend when we were out in the thick bush that has already been growing in overabundance this year I thought...hmm.....it sure would be nice if this thing would talk to me like it does when it's in turn-by-turn mode...

Say maybe....200 feet till destination... 150 ft to destination....50 feet....and arrived....all without having to look down and fight the limbs & thorns just to get a look at the screen....I know it's got a proximity alarm (or whatever it's been changed to now) but it's not the same.... Make it configurable so it doesn't talk you to death ya know...yap yap yap would get old but a little would go a LONG way in helping in thick undergrowth or other situations...

I have had my 510 for about 2 weeks now and have the latest firmware loaded. Here is my 2 cents worth of what I would find better.

1. Arrow on map needs to be smaller and higher contrast, very hard to see in bright light, and covers up too much of the map to see exact position.

2. Be able to use custom button on side of unit to toggle between screens. I have an older magellan map 330 and can use the nav button to toggle between different screens, and can turn on/off which screens get scrolled through, really nice feature.

3. Backlight should not reset to 60% every time I push the power button to turn off the unit. I have to turn it back down to 20% before turning it off to save batteries, so that next time I turn it back on it is at 20% instead of 60%. It appears to do this only the first time the power button is clicked, if I turn it down after it jumps to 60%, then press the power button the second time, it remembers it. But after powering off, it starts all over again. (perhaps backlight incicator on map screen could have a number or meter showing the current backlight setting)

4. OneTouch Screen does not have the option to add Dashboard as a shortcut for geocaches.

5. Be able to click on the signal strength indicator on top right corner as an instant shortcut to the satellite screen. And do this withouth changing the dashboard setting on the top left menu.

6. Be able to click on the battery icon as a shortcut to the power save and battery settings screen.

7. Need a higher contrast setting on maps for bright sunlight.

8. Toggling track lines on/off in map options does not make current active track disappear, still shows on map, you have to go into the settings for the active track and check hids, this does not appear to work right.

9. Be able to search for an address, even if not routable, my old magellan map 330 was not routeable, but I could add a waypoint for an address.

10. An indicator in the top bar that shows what profile is selected.

And can we PLEASE revisit the keyboard thing - Give us 2 screens... one with ALL the letters on it, with a shift button, and the 2nd with numerals and all other characters. PLEASE. A keyboard is nice but is useless if it doesn't function well.

I honestly don't have a lot of gripes about my unit but this is far and above the most annoying thing I find with it.

Is it possible to set up the unit so that the first touch turns on the backlight, and then the 2nd activates the 4 corner menu ? We could have this as a setting the user could adjust, so we can just touch once to see the map.

I would like to add my support to Denise’s suggestion.

In using a short time period on the backlight to conserve the battery life the first touch of the screen should only turn the backlight on again. Not switch to the four corner menu. If the four corner menu is required then a second touch should bring it up.

Currently when the backlight is off the first touch switches the unit to the four corner menu and 99% of the time you then have to touch the screen again to switch the unit back to the map screen.

The screen touch routine should first check if the backlight is on or off. If it is ON, then switch to the four corner menu. If it is OFF, then switch the backlight on again.

David,

Please pass this to Magellan it should be a simple coding change that would improve the units operation.

Graham.

I would agree it would simplify the operation. But then as habits are formed...there is not much wrong with the double tap in the middle of the screen.

Not a problem! I read every post placed on this forum and I'm always compiling your suggestions and forwarding them to the top guys at Magellan. You'll never know just how much of a part each of you are playing in the future development of these products, because the guys at Magellan are listening. Yes, I know that it sometimes might seem a bit slow; however, in a larger corporation they're not always able to give us the update we want over night like Clyde seems to do with GSAK. However, there are some really, really cool things coming down the pipe. I would love to tell you about some of them, but I can't...

Oh yeah, the people at Magellan monitor this board looking for suggestions, complaints and sometimes fixes.

That option is a pretty good idea.
It would make it easier to see in bright sun light.

Hi guys!

First of all, I'm a long time reader from the forum but its my first time posting here.

I'm a 710 happy owner. Everything is perfect, but I miss one thing that could make life easy for everybody, specially those with vision problems.
It would be great to have an option to toggle a white round box around the geocaching icons on the map. It would be much more clear and easy to spot the tiny icons under direct sun light.

In attachment theres a picture I've made to show you up how could it be done.

What do you think of it?

Regards,
Tiago, from Portugal

I put geocaches, waypoints and tracks on the internal memory, they don't use much memory.
I put maps, photos and everything else that does use a lot of memory on the SD card.
Also I never use VP to load geocaches to my 710, it still will not load them all, it seems to be random but some (about 25%) don't transfer to the unit.

No tips on direct load from VP or GSAK to the card, just move what you want on the card from internal memory to the card while the unit is still connected to the pc, takes just a few minutes.

That tip worked perfect. Thats what I hate about VP. For some reason it syncs to X610 not the SD card thus filling my unit. If anyone knows away to get around this chime in lol

This is a great idea--When I download from GSAK to the gps the caches go directly into the internal memory, I can do an around about and get them on the SD card but--just wondering if you know a short-cut or a direct load to the SD--thanks TY
