Hmmm, I'll talk to them about their description on the webpage, because it is a standard lanyard and it is long enough to go around your neck and I only say this having seen it. But we need to get the description changed so that it isn't so misleading....

Phil,

I confused about this too! If it isn't a neck lanyard, what is it? The last time I was at Magellan HQ Justin, the marketing that was showing it to me was wearning it around his neck!

This is what it says on the page to buy it;

* Strong and durable design
* 5mm diameter
* "Break-away" clip
* Attach to back pack or belt loop

If it attaches to a belt or back pack it would be too short to use as a neck lanyard?
I don't have one and have no use for a carabiner mount anyway, I prefer the unit in my case, in a pocket or on a lanyard around my neck.
The unit on the lanyard hangs about 16 inches below my chin, any closer is too close for me to read it or use it easily.

Ok I took the Carabiner Mount idea to Magellan today and they're going to look into it, but I also saw some of the other things they're looking into and they're working to give us a great assortment of options as far as accessories.

I use the micro case on my belt, the unit tracks while in the case and it's protected.

That would be nice for hiking, I may look into one. But because of where I live 75% of my geocaching is urban, and stealth is key, try NOT to attract muggle attention with a lanyard and a big GPS hanging around your neck while looking at a bush in a parking lot. Plus when I bend over to look it ends up in the bush, stump, etc, I am trying to look at.

I have to agree with KI4HLW. I really like the carabiner mount that Garmin has. While, I haven't used it. I did something fairly similar with my Triton, and I really liked it, accept that it always held my Triton upside down, when I wanted to read it.

I am afraid to ask.... if its not a neck lanyard what part of my body should I be putting it around??? :ohmy: :blink:

No I actually do have one of these I either attach it to my pack strap, or tuck it around by belt 2 or 3 times. It is nice but on my belt I end up with 6 inches of lanyard hanging down because I like it to be someplace I can walk without kicking it. And the break away feature on the back means it does not sit nice when looped though a pack strap or around a belt loop, the rubber tube does not fold nicely and is right at the center point. Making my own out of paracord actually works better because to rubber breakaway in the way, maybe if they off-centered it.

I know the website says it is for belt or pack, but no matter what it says I can attest there are much nicer designs to accomplish it.

I'm not exactly a neck lanyard kinda guy, though I bought one for now for lack of other options, so seeing with the new rail mount system and all I would be happy as a clam if Magellan would make something like this for the x10 series, hoping this suggestion may ...cough, ahem... somehow find it's way to Magellan.

I may even buy something like this too, but sure would look funny if it had another manufactures name on it:

EDIT: Spelling error
