Hi JG,

please excuse my confusion.

When I initially posted about this problem a few months ago you said the following...

Bobo,

We have seen this problem before. It is the UK ordnance survey maps.

Just for the heck of your may have to inform the 710 of the existence of these maps.

First of all, the maps have to be in the ROOT of the MicroSDHC card.  Do not place them in a subfolder named /map or /map_data.

Next you will see in the /map folder of the 710 /map file a file named touch.mdc

Transfer a copy of this file to the ROOT of the Micro memory card.

Now add the file name of the UK ordinance software to the [IMAGE] as file names

[BASE]
0=WWEU_BM.mgi

[PC]

[IMAGE]
0=Europe.imi
1=Europe.tpo
2=
3=

etc….

See if this stabilizes the maps.

JG

So I followed the advice above and it worked fine until last week. I haven't made any changes bar adding more waypoints and caches.

When I look at my sd card my maps are in the ROOT,there is a touch file there too, a unit.xml and a USBTrans folder.

When I look at the gps there is a touch file in the MAP folder and europe.imi europe.tpo and europe.poi and wweu_bmr.mgi file.

I'll delete the touch on my SD card and see if it restabilises.

Bobo,

Let me make sure that you and I are on the same frequency.

The touch file is only to ONLY be located in the GPS /Map folder.  It is also to ONLY reference those files which are located in the GPS Map Folder.

If you have map files on the MicroSDHC they should always be in the root of the memory card and NO TOUCH FILE should be used.

If the location of your files in the memory card are being stored in a /MAP folder you created on the memory card .. please move them to the ROOT of the card .. and again NO TOUCH FILE.

The strobe effect is being created by the storage of your maps.

Hi Bobo,

Something must have changed.  For example:

1) Did you do any upgrades to either the firmware or maps?

2) Did you add anything to the MicroSDHC card (i.e. new maps, etc.).  Did you make any changes referencing that data can now be stored on the MicroSDHC card directly?

3) Did you add any geocaches, waypoints, tracks, routes?

Please ponder what changes could have been made but something changed.

JG

Hi JG,

1) No updates done

2) I haven't done anything like that-no idea. I did notice that while I have all my external sd maps now on that touch.mdc referenced 1-14. Only 1-3 are referenced on the gps unit in the MAP folder.

3) Yes, all the time. Have deleted all of those off to see if it reverts to being a good gps.

Hi there, I bought a 710 a few months ago and Jungle Ghost helped me solve the strobing of my ordnance survey maps.

As of yesterday the unit has started strobing again. I don't think I have changed anything on the gps and I checked the touch.mdc file to ensure it still held the same info, it does.

Can anyone help.

It's been fine since my last post
