Not having map upgrades makes it hard to argue with new users that it is better to buy a dedicated GPSr than to use your Smartphone Confused

Hi Peter,

We are getting upgrades on average every 3 - 5 months.   What does the Magellan Australia Staff say about upgrades.  They should be offering upgrades off their site.

I am getting to the stage where I am going to make upgraded files available to all Worldwide Explorist Members.

That would be awesome....

Hi Mike,

Updated maps are certainly needed. In Western Australia where I am the current City maps are over two year old. With a fast growing state there are whole suburbs that are completely missing in the City series maps. Like you I know Magellan would have updated data from NavTEQ.

For some reason Magellan is not prepared to provide the available data for X10 units.

Graham.

I would like to address the apparent problem concerning the lack of map upgrades for the X10 units.

One example of my concern are the messages between Peter and Graham on the problems with the Australian City Turn by Turn Maps.   One of our customers, Sorceress reported that our maps are newer than theirs.

Magellan has informed us that there are no upgrade features for people for Magellan Summit and/or City Maps.   In HQ we have newer maps and have also found defects in the City Maps for North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

As a NavTEQ developer we know that NavTEQ and the other vendors that supply Magellan are sending in updates on the average of every six months.

There should be a service similar to the Garmin method of upgrades for both the Summit and City Maps.  They allow their purchasers to download the updates. Personally, we here at JG HQ do not relish the idea of people using problematic maps.

Mike
