MAGELLAN TRITON DO IT YOURSELF REPAIR KITS FOR THE 400 AND 500 UNITS
These are legacy units that are still in use. There are times when the user messes up the internal files. They have to be reloaded. We have a standard warning to those who download geocaches in our message.

The Magellan Triton GPS is a sturdy unit.  It has the one of the best satellite sensing chips on the market.  Below are the Dumped Files for the 400 and 500 units.

The major problem is that users who geocache downloaded GPX files is they forget to scrub them.  For those who do not understand what we mean please visit the JungleGhost website at http://www.jungleghost.com/ind.....iton.shtml

Installation instructions:

0) Before you do this fix, please download the latest VantagePoint (VP) software and install it. You will find a copy on the JungleGhost website.  The VP software only works with PC DOS and not MAC software.

After down loading VP check the installation by viewing your C:\ drive. Make sure that there is a folder on it named "Magellan".   This folder will hold all the drivers you need to proceed and create the below Virtual Magellan Drive.

1) Load fresh batteries into your unit.

2) Connect your Triton to your PC using the supplied USB data cable.

3) Simultaneously press the LIGHT, UP ARROW and POWER SWITCH.  Do not remove your fingers from this setting until the unit establishes the Magellan Virtual Drive on the PC.

4) Go to your PC and verify that this drive (it may be named D or E or G, etc.) is loaded.  It usually starts with a folder named APP.

5) TWO RULES NOW:  A) NEVER FORMAT YOUR GPS.  B) THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT "MAKE A COPY OF THE COMPLETE FILES ON YOUR VIRTUAL DRIVE TO YOUR C:\ DRIVE JUST IN CASE YOU MESS UP THE NEXT STEPS.   REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN ALWAYS COPY THESE COPIES FILES BACK TO YOUR GPS.

6) Using Windows check and scan the GPS.   Right click the transferred folder on your PC, check on TOOLS and set the scan to ERROR CHECKING.  Then check and run the "Automatical Fix the System Errors".  If you have error the test will create a new folder with the errors in it, which you will erase.  This cleans the corrupt files for you which may be one of the errors that messed up your Triton.

7) Unzip the correct DUMP files for your 400 or 500.

8) Erase to all the files and folders on your GPS except the FOLDER NAMED 'MAP' OR 'MAP DATA".  You will be unable to erase the UNIT file.

9 Now copy all the files from below dumped zip file to your GPS.  If your dumped zip files contain a MAP or MAP DATA folder do not copy it use your original file which has the extension ".mgi".

Enjoy your adventure.
