This is a story about the now infamous Satellite Tracking Error "NO FF".  The Satellite page is showing a blank blue page which indicates that the SIRFSTAR III chip is not seeing any satellites.

Many customers have asked us to fix this problem and to-date we have just told them what Magellan has told us.  ..."That the problem was not solvable."

So I personally decided to try to find out what the problem was and the solution.   I asked some assistance from two members of this forum thinking that the problem was that the SIRFSTAR chip needed to be updated.

They confirmed two ways to reset the chip and I WISH TO THANK BOTH OF THEM "ALEX (SOCKEYE) AND STEFFEN (S1G)" for their assistance.

Unfortunately the software resetting of the chip did not solve the problem.  It turns out that I had to change two components on the motherboard to get the Satellite to be received.

In addition, when I change the components the Satellite speed increased.  I do not know why.

To test this work, I took two additional units out of the service lab and repeated the procedure.

In Summary: It is possible to recover a unit from this problem and not have to return an "out of warranty" unit for exchange.
