Uh, I thought you would have seen this one.
Thanks ... JG

In my case, the picture, you have uploaded appeared as I started up the unit. (my current 710).
I was able to boot up with the totaleXmod. With totalEXmod, I could run the total commander, which allowed me to copy a backup.
Somewhere in this forum I found a notice, that the unit.xml appears to be the bad boy.
Since than, I always had a copy of the firmware on my SD-card.Hope, this is some kind of help.

Steffen,
I am sure that our members would like to know where they can find the totalEXmod?
Do you have the link?

I ran once into this problem. (The device made this by itself). It was on FW 6.06. The problem was, that the unit.xml was completly empty. Installing the new firmware did not solve the problem, as the unit.xml was not copied by a FW update. Only a copy of the backup right out of the box solved the problem.
I reported this to Eric / Magellan asap.
S!G,
OK .. need your input on this one. Since in this case, the USB will not connect to the GPS, how, did you see that the unit.xml was empty?
You have my curiosity up. Usually the unit.xml is under the attributes of 'r' and 's' but I can change them to '-r' and '-s' and if hidden '-h' and then do an overwrite.
We can do this for the Triton units using a FILE MANAGER PROGRAM and going through the Memory card. But units in this condition do not recognize the memory card and jump to the "no USB connection" screen immediately after the splash.
Between you and I, we have seen the same image with a "no connect" going to a MEMORY CARD telling us that we need to use the memory card solution to a problem.
The case presented tells us that we would have to do the SDHC card solution and rewrite the EEPROM.

Just a word of caution. Please do not play with the internal files of the Explorist. I know that it is very tempting with your access to the F:\Magellan folder to play programmer.
This also addresses members who overwrite files in this memory. We find that some users make copies of the internal files of this folder. Then if they get an error they just recopy their backup files over the existing files on the F:\Magellan folder.
The result of this work could get you into big trouble. As seen by the image below. This image is making the statement that
the USB cannot be found for connection to the PC.
