I had the same issue after upgrading to the new VP. I completely uninstalled VP, including every folder I could search for except for the folder where I keep my maps. Installed again , and everything has been fine since.

Well.... I am still have major issues with VP 'stopped working'! Today I was trying to load 4 maps that I created with the Triton on to VP. I am doing everything correctly - GPS connected, maps in a folder on desktop, etc. But when I clip the add map button, it starts to load the map and then goes to the 'stopped working' error! This is really getting frustrating. Anyone have any suggestions?

(I don't want to use MS Streets and Roads because we want the National Geographic maps on VP for traveling to lookout towers.)

No you can't load S.& T. maps to an x10, the maps on 710 are better anyway!
I bring a laptop on any over-night trip. That way I can easily load more caches, routes and waypoints to the 710 and log cache finds every day on GC.com.

More importantly I need the laptop to reset the 710 when it stops working!

No, the Streets & Trips is just a road map - no topo.
It does driving directions, route planing and works pretty good.
I've been using it for years and like it but in the truck I now use the 710 for directions, routes and driving around hunting caches.
I still load up a few Streets & Trips maps whenever I go on a trip plus it helps me plan my trips.
You need GSAK to export cache files to it.

You mentioned maps that you created! How did you create them and are these maps that you are also using on an eX510, 610 or 710?

David - they are the maps I created from Topo! long ago for the tritons. We love them because of the good topo when caching in the mountains which we do almost exclusively. I have them saved to the computer too, but have to reload each one with the gps attached.. 🙁

I think we will try to delete VP completely and reload and see if that solves the problem.

Does that Streets and Roads program have topo too?

Becuase I too have had a problem with VP, however, I figured out the issue. I've mapped out the entire High Desert of SoCal with TritonRMP and Mobac and I've used Sockeye's utility so to convert them so that I can use them on the eXplorist. However, I cannot use the convert maps in VP, because they repeatedly crash it, so I've been using the old (unconverted) maps on in VP and the new ones on my 710 without issue.

Yeah well, sometimes work and going out 4-wheeling and Geocaching gets me behind on the forums!!! I guess I have to work on that :-)... But it will be a while since I'm going Geocaching tomorrow and hope to grab another 200 on Monday!!!

Maybe another thing you could mention. About the calibration issue of the compass .... ask if its possible to get a compass calibration to last through a set of batteries, regardless of connection to external power or travel speed or anything else.

Yup! Convice them, that we need to change things on Geocache-Listings. f.e. coordinates for solved mystery-caches. And send my greatings to both of them! All the other things, I have sent to both via my last "comments"-mail 😉

Steffen,

I know that Alex hadtold me that he was going to work on the issue and was going to offer an update to the RMP Tools, however, I never saw a new release - did you? The issue that I had with VP after using the RMP Tools was absolutely repeatable, but if there is a newer version of the utility I would love to get a hold of it!

Thanks,
David

Anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions to fix it? I know we can probably delete VP and reload but then we have to reload all the maps we have created too... :S

Thanks in advance for your input!!

I've been having this issue for years with VP.
Save all your maps on the computer and reloading VP has worked for me.
Of course you have to reload the maps back onto VP.
This is why I gave up using VP for geocaches.
I bought Microsoft Streets & Trips and use GSAK to create S&T files for caches and use that on the laptop in the geo-mobile.

An example;
