In VP it's simple to build the route, just click on the geocaches you want to go to, on the map, then save the route, right click it and get driving directions.

I've built routes in VP before, with 1.73. Haven't tried with 2.04, but I can't see it being that much different. I had built a route to go into a hunting area, using a MOBAC Earth map, and uploaded it to the old T-500. It worked out well, plenty accurate, some 25 points or so.

Start the Build Route sequence, scroll thru the map, and click to add points to the route. It sometimes helps to have a 2nd window open, to switch to say, Google Earth or Maps, to help visualize the route, without messing with VP, as it's easy to bugger up the route building process.

OK, I created a route with driving directions in VP going to 14 geocaches and then transferred it to my 710.
When I brought up the route on the 710 I hit go-to and got driving directions that matched what was on VP.

So we can create a route with step-by-step directions on VP and transfer it to a 710! :cheer:

I don't have the same geocache file on VP and 710 so the caches on the route show as waypoints instead of caches.
Some screen shots;

I hit goto next;

And got this;

That gave me this;

Here's what showed on VP;

Here's a couple more screen shots;

After finding the first cache I would return to the route options page & hit goto next for the next leg of the route.

:blush: No, really! I did have problems with VP. :blush:

:blush: I would say only half of my complaints about VP were caused by 'User Update Problem'. :blush:

I keep getting updated but my foot still fits perfectly in my mouth! :S

Hmmmm? VP + phild31 = problems :ohmy:

Some have had problems with VP, those of us that like it keep it to ourselves that the problems are usually the "User 2.0 update error" ๐Ÿ˜‰ :side:

It's been a long time since I could double my cache finds in a day! :ohmy:

Doubled my count every day so far. I'm going to bask in the glow of it while I can... which is another ~7.5 hours. ๐Ÿ™‚

Well you not only beat my brother David (who got me started geocaching with a trade up to the 710) but you provided the right answer too!

Of course David will probably log on later with another 100+ find day.
Myself ~ today I doubled my cache finds! I now have 6 :laugh:

No trouble, any excuse to play with my toys is a good excuse.
Snarkitude seems to be a muggle infection, here we just try to be the first to answer with some help. ๐Ÿ˜‰

And hope to get it right. :blush:

Thank you so much! That is exactly what I wanted to do. And thank you for the kind answers everyone. So far this seems like a great forum. I was a little hesitant to ask a question as some of the other forums I've been on (non-geocaching) are heavy into snarkitude. :cheer:

Woo Hoo! That works pretty good.
I created a route to a few caches;

Then I did the right click and Calculate turn-by-turn;

A close up look;

I wish I had played with VP more after I updated.
Later tomorrow I'll see what happens when I export the route to the 710.

Wow, that's good S!G, I'll have to start playing with VP more to see what it will do.
I usually use Streets & Trips on the laptop in the truck for a larger map image with caches loaded onto it. Now I'll have to try it with VP.

Thanks for the tips.

Ha, I can answer right before David ๐Ÿ˜‰

Create a route in VP with 2 points. 1. Starting-point and second your destination.
Save this route in VP.
When you select this route, rightclick on the Route on the left menu. You can select "Calculate turn-by-turn"
and you can select "Find geocaches along this route"

Now you have the turning directions on the bottom of the screen and the nearby caches on the right.
I gues, this is, what you are looking for.

(You need to have your city Series map enabled in VP)

I see. Well, I used Bing Maps to print off a map for my wife just now to use along with her RoadMate. It is really nice to have the bigger picture as a hard copy for reference and I thought that would be nice to do with VP and show caches along the route.

I'll just bet David has a work around in his bag~0~tricks.

Nope, my understanding is that the street routing program uses a different format that doesn't work on VP.

I was a little disappointed myself but the 710 does such a very good job with driving directions that I don't miss having printed references.

Well, I tried doing that but it won't work that way.
When you use the driving directions on the 710 it figures a new route from where-ever you happen to be.

You can create a route in VP but it won't load as a driving directions route to the 710.

Oh yeah, you can transfer maps from the 710 to VP.

Thanks David. I did figure out how to switch between street routing and direct routing... well, after you explained it to me over the phone the other day. ๐Ÿ˜‰

But what I'm specifically asking here is how to do route planning using Vantage Point 2.04 ~ the .pdf manual (ver 1.10) shows tabs along the top that do not exist in ver. 2.04 ~ at least that I can find.

What I want to do is plan a route on my computer using VP and then be able to 1)print that out and 2) load it onto the 710.
