Richard has been out of town for the past few days so I haven't spoken to him in a week or so; but I will try to contact him tomorrow and see what the deal is with this issue.

Since he is the "map" guy at Magellan, he should be able to give us an answer...

David

Sorceress,

I assume you got version 4.4.2 from Jungle Ghost?
And I take it that version is not available from the Magellan Australia helpdesk.

Perhaps Jungle Ghost could help with the problem Peter, or is it Graham has?
Or perhaps the helpdesk could contact Jungle Ghost for the update?
Either way it's just a thought I had.

By the way, mine has always given the "go straight ahead" chimes at a round-a-bout no matter what turn (1st, 2nd, 3rd etc) it tells me to take.

Peter,

Forgive me but I did not put together the pprass and the first 'p' as Peter.

By the way, the updates do not change the creation date as viewed by your GPS. For example; the Version 4.4.2 still reports the same creation date. Just the Version will change.

Do you reckon we will get a special little update just for us Graham? Doesn't look promosing does it.

Sorceress - this is what I posted a few days ago.

Checked again and no weird turn left to turn right instructions - sorry.

Have you got any other maps in there that could be confusing the routing map?

Can I assume that you are referring to the Australia City Maps? If so, are you using the latest FW (6.5X) for your unit?

If it is the Australian map, please check the DiscoverAus.imi file for Version Number. I have been told to disregard the Creation Date because the updates do not change the Creation Date. Just the Version Number is changed on your GPS screen.

Is it Version 4.4.1 or 4.4.2?

Thank You.

Graham - I just went out and checked the turn-by-turn instructions when approaching a right hand turn controlled by lights and it was faultless.

I am going out again this afternoon so will check again.

Thanks Peter,

That appears to confirms what I suspected that the problem is only with my 710 as it had been working fine prior to the second last firmware update. The update process or something else at about that time must have corrupted a file and now the navigation software is not working correctly.

Possible deleting all the files in the 710 and reloading them may fix it. I’m not sure how dangerous that process is. David will no doubt know.

Graham.

No - if it is not on their script they don't know about it.
When we used to deal with Kevan from Next Destination, we could have a good sensible conversation and he would tell you stuff that you didn't know - not the other way 'round as is happening now.

I didn't manage to get out at all today - installing a dishwasher that took way too long. Tomorrow I am going out so will check on the turn issue.

Peter, I contacted Magellan Australia helpdesk. They maintained what you and I have is the latest but I not totally sure they understood what I was talking about.

Have you had an opportunity to see if your 710 is allowing right turns at most traffic Lights?

Graham.

How long ago was this? Please tell me it was before April of this year

I believe one of my messages gave the date as 05/02/2012

Sorceress, thank you for that excellent information.

No apology to me is necessary when one of my silly ideas doesn't work out.

Graham, I am not 100% sure that my GPSr behaves in exactly the same way as you have described. I have definitely been directed to do a weird convoluted turn once or twice and thought - "what the #$%^" and put it down to the GPSr deciding to re-route for some reason, but it is not all the time.
I will check it out tomorrow and keep a close watch on what it does.
I have 6.53 FW after upgrading from 6.33

A couple of other interesting issues though:
1. I have noticed from time to time that the little turn arrow on the top LHS of the screen will indicate (say) turn left, but the voice will say turn right. I have ignored that thinking I misheard the voice command - it is a bit soft sometmes! Maybe this is linked with what you are describing?
2. Although in an earlier post I mentioned that the 2 chimes that go off just before a turn are a wonderful assistance, I have noticed that when you enter a round-about and you have to turn left or right, that the chime gives you the "go straight ahead" sound of low-low.

Thanks Peter, on my 710 it happen at every major intersection controlled by traffic lights. Maybe all traffic light intersections I’m not totally sure.

With regards to your two issue;
1. I have had it a number of times, direction arrow indicating different to the voice.
2. I’m not sure how the chimes sound, the voice indicated first, second or, third exit. I will listen more clearly to the chimes.

Graham.

Hi S,

Tell me more, what bug in the Australian software. I am running 6.53.

Graham.

Graham, Some facts for you to know. I travel across the globe as an Insurance Adjuster for a large International Corporation. I am also a Solid Magellan User. My Company reimburses me for these units and also some of the other adjusters.

The Jungle Ghost is about 40 minutes North of Headquarters in NJ. For five years, he has been supplying our GPS units, maps and technical support.

We have Explorists that he loaded with North American, Europe and the Australia and New Zealand maps .. we use the City Series for our car navigations. All our units have both the Summit and City Magellan Series.

Now to answer your question. He asked us to return our units because he received a new Australian City Map and wanted to update our old maps. He actually did the same for Europe. He simply stated a "bug". They never tell us what the bug is. So I am sorry.

By the way, his philosophy is that the 510 and 610 can be made into a 710. The only problem being the difference in the main memory and the 510 lacking the electronic compass, altimeter and barometer. But seriously when I use my 510 in Europe the satellites give me direction and elevation and the barometer I never use.

Heck in Norway, it is always wet regardless of any barometric response.

I apologize for the large message but I thought that you would like to know.

Also he also suggests never stepping back in FW revisions as this could lead to problems. Sorry Phil, his words not mine.

-S-

Hi S,

Thank you for the information, especially about loading old versions. I think I will give that a miss.

Graham.
