Yeah, but I would like to see the street names/route # at the top of the page a little bit bigger! 😛

I think this goes under the heading of 'You can't have everything'. 😉
Anyway it does show the route number, distance and direction of the turn.
If the text at the top of the screen was bigger, the map would be smaller.
For a handheld GPSr a bigger screen wouldn't be that good an idea.
The compromise they came up with seems to work, this is a great outdoors GPSr that does a very good job in driving directions.

I would hope a dedicated automobile gps with a larger screen should do driving directions a little bit better.

I know, I know B) . It's so good that sometimes I forget it's an outdoor unit. Let's focus on the outdoor priorities first, but maybe this will be a feature in Firmware v9.3 of 710 😉

It will show the route name of the next turn plus distance to turn.

The system will give you plenty of warning about up coming turns and will show signage on the screen.
At interstate speeds it starts warning of turns at five miles!
It will say, 'right turn in two miles'. 'Bear right in one mile'.
The way they do it is safer than trying to read a lot of text on a screen while doing 65 MPH.
I've had almost no trouble following the directions on the interstates, with-out having to read anything at 65 MPH.

You can get a text preview of the route, turn by turn, but trying to read and follow the text while driving would be suicidal at interstate speeds!

Understand that and I definitely don't want a list of text outlining every turn while driving (which is a current feature of the 710). Rather, what would be helpful is if in BIG letters the name of the next highway/street/interstate shown on the screen. For example, yesterday I was driving north on I-75 into Cincinnati. I had to take a turn in Cincinnati (onto I-71, which I knew from experience), however, there are 4 possible turns all within 1/4 mile. If I was using main screen of 710, I wouldn't have a clue how to prepare for the turn and which lane to be in. I know its an outdoor GPS, probably not intended for situations like this, but would be a nice feature to have BIG letters the name of the next highway/street/interstate to prepare the driver 😉 Besides, my cheap Nextar car GPS has this feature 😛

So I took the eXplorist 710 on a road trip yesterday. Great turn-by-turn directions!! While adequate in the city, I've got one question that pertains especially to interstate driving: Does the City Series have option to show preview for upcoming interstates/exits (not spoken but just text on the screen such as "next right turn I-5 N")? This is especially important on the interstate because the speed of travel and the numerous signs indicating upcoming intersections. Thoughts?
