Thanks Sockeye, and everyone else who replied - everything's working fine now!

I downloaded 7Zip and got the map working fine in VP (great map of Algonquin Park, Sockeye!) and downloaded it to my 610 but it won't work on the GPS - it has a red "x" on it. It's now an .rmp file - do I have to do something else to get it to work?

Please download it again. I fixed it to work with the new eXplorist series. (btw. it now is a *.zip file)

Thanks for the heads-up...

The maps are still in the old format. I'll need to convert them

Yes. You have to run the map through Sockeye's RMP Tools program, you'll find it in one of the other posts in the Sockeye section. Run the program, select the file and then send the updated file to your unit. It should work then.

Sorry, I guess my P.S. should have been to Sockeye (moderator of this category), not Miniwhip. As mentioned previously, I'm a rookie at this.

Thank you all for replying. As soon as I had posted my question I noticed the ads for the "unzipping" software, right underneath my post!! (it had been a long day!). I downloaded 7Zip and got the map working fine in VP (great map of Algonquin Park, Sockeye!) and downloaded it to my 610 but it won't work on the GPS - it has a red "x" on it. It's now an .rmp file - do I have to do something else to get it to work?

P.S. Miniwhip - can you delete the double post I did of the original question? I don't know how that happens (second time I've done it) :S

I've used winrar before and had issues with it. I much prefer using WinZip, also free, and never had an issue with it causing problems with zipped or unzipped maps.

Hi,

if you do not have a tool to extract the *.rar files, I would recommend to use 7 Zip (free) : Download 7 zip

RAR is compressed file format like ZIP.
Use prog like WinRAR to extract the map.

Can anyone tell me how to open a .rar map? I joined maps4me and downloaded a Canadian topo and a Yosemite topo (both .imi files) and they both work great in VP (I haven't tried them in the GPS yet). I also downloaded a map of Algonquin Park which is a .rar file and I think I copied it into VP (it shows in the "maps" folder with the other maps) but it won't open.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
