Our craftsmen have connected to MOBAC several sources of maps.
Maybe you'll find what you need - http://tourist.kharkov.ua/phpb.....p?id=76545

I got this working with 1.9.5

I first downloaded the older version 1.9.1, then copied the map sources files from that folder into the map sources folder in 1.9.5, and all the map sources that were removed after version 1.9.1 were back and usable.

What exactly was the incompatibility? I'm using 1.81 and Google Terrain only shows up as black with white roads. No terrain information is displayed. Any help/insights would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sooo sorry I haven't replied before now. Last couple of days I've been spending in the purchase of a canoe and accessories that I need with it to do some lake caching. Got tired of renting (throwing $48/day away) so decided to buy my own.

Anyhoo....If I can figure out how to post them I'll post them...I took quite a few. I took them at several different zoom levels and even took a couple of the satellite view. Being as they are free...what can I say...and creating them was WAY easy. Just have to drag & drop them to your device after completion. Here goes....

The first image is a default/built in image (note orange lines that outline custom map borders). Second image is a custom satellite image at 100 ft scale. Rest are various TERRAIN images down to 1/4 mile.

I have TERRAIN down to 1/4 mile then switches to Satellite view to 50 ft then defaults to built in map as anything lower than 50 ft is so bad blurry. Hopefully you'll see why I think they are too busy for just general strolling to find a cool place to hide. Don't get me wrong, TOPO's are awesome for showing a LOT of detail but I don't like them all the time. I do have topo maps also loaded to my unit and have them down to I think 300 feet then satellite view to 50 then default thereafter. Here are a couple of the TOPO of the same area around King Kong Chasm.

EDIT: ok...can't post them...guess max file size is 150 KB and the smallest one I can get is 180KB sorry...I'm sure someone has some topo images on theirs...oh well...guess it's just too busy to be posted LOL.

Can you post a screen shot of what you have created and loaded onto your 710?

A MANY thank you's go out to MOREL for his help with getting to the root of my Google Terrain source problem. Turned out to be a software version compatability (or incompatability) or something along that line. Obtained version 1.8.1 and problem solved! I can now create beautiful maps from a variety of sources easily and best of all....FREE!!!! (for now that is LOL). Thank you for being so patient and help me work thru this. I've now got an awesome terrain map of the half of my state to work with....many more to come. Now gotta get me a micro SD card LOL. BTW...terrain map for Indiana from Indianapolis down to the Ohio river at zoom levels of 13,14, and 15 ended up only being 217,272 KB in size with 27,877 tiles to download with a 15 minute creation time....FANTASTIC! THANK YOU!

Yeah...found that out back when I first started to try and learn MOBAC. Even with the tutorial posted I though it was a bit overwhelming at first since it didn't go into great depth as to exactly what everything was. Then saw some post's about getting better results (aka more sources) with older versions. I have both but hardly ever use the 1.9 beta version. I'm gonna try and deal with geocaching.com directly and see if I can get some answers that way as to where/how they are getting their TERRAIN data. Probably from GOOGLE but who knows.... Just saw there are a few settings that are a bit perplexing for the source setup....just don't know how to go about getting those figures. Hopefully someone at Geocaching site will give me some insight.

I really appreciate your kind efforts... I think that's what Forums are designed for....Helping. Whining/Griping/B*tch*ng about things do nothing but show your mentality to others. Facebook/Twitter/Blogs are a good spot for those things LOL. Anyhoo...I thank you sir for trying to help out!

The source choices are limited if using the newest version of MOBAC. That is why I have stayed with Mobile Atlas Creator version 1.8

Thanks for the reply Morel. I tried that previously and was thinking that I had been doing something wrong when the screen turns black with only the roads showing up in white. Seems as tho google maps has done something with the terrain feature...finally got googlemaps to display terrain but had to jump thru a couple hoops. They've moved it under a different menu system or something so as of yet I'm gonna guess that I'll have to figure out how to edit the map source data somehow to correct for the change. Just now starting investigating that one. If you'd know anything along those lines I'd appreciate any/all help you can offer. I'm gonna start working on it now.

Again, thank you....

Select "Google Terrain" as the source in MOBAC. That is the only source of that type of image map that I know of.

I am wondering if anybody knows how to get the TERRAIN maps like those used from within the Geocaching.com website? I was able to get some topo maps utilizing MOBAC as well as some very sweet sat images and they're nice and all but I find the TOPO's a bit too busy at times near my hometown and I REALLY like the TERRAIN type and would LOVE to be able to overlay them onto my x710 unit....REALLY helps when you're out in the DEEP bush and easier to me to read and just glance at as well as being easier on the eyes when you're looking for a cache about .2 miles away and if you can see a ridge that would take you VERY close to it instead of hitting some fjords between here and there would be great. I know I know...and I don't want any smart remarks about "well topo's are easy to read are you stupid" or "these are better, why would you want that", if that's what you're thinking I'd prefer you keep your opinion to yourself as I'm not interested in that sort of discussion....I just have a PREFERENCE for the TERRAIN type maps. Sometimes I really don't care about how steep a hill is...just how it "flows"...all I want is HOW or CAN I GET THE TERRAIN TYPES on the x710.

Thank you VERY much for any/all help anyone can provide with this "preference" wish (NOT an expectation) well in adavance!
