Here's a couple of screenshots from my 710 of the summit topo.
I don't have a Garmin to compare them to but this may help.
I used Vantage Point to find coordinates in Tennessee to enter a waypoint on the 710 Explorist (the flag)

The first is in Etowah, Tennessee

The flag is at N35 16.768 W084 31.217

The next is in the Cherokee National Forest;
The pin is on an un-named trail 873 miles from my house at 2203 feet elevation.
The little black arrow at the base of the pin is pointing to the GPSr in my house. I placed the pin there by tapping the screen.
The pin is at N35 15.965 W084 30.986

When in trouble or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout

I don't remember whether I had mentioned it anywhere, but I'm running Sockeye's maps on my 310, with great results.

Having some issues with the summit maps, however, and wondering if anyone else has tried that.

I believe I saw a post that someone had Sockeye's maps on a 310...

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but is anyone using the summit maps on a 310?

Hi,

the strenght of the Magellan US Topo is the inclusion of most of the US trails.

Supply your target coordinates and some users will surely post some screenshots from that area. You can then compare these with the online viewer of Garmin and driectly see the difference.

Best regards,
Sockeye

Hi -

We live right next to a wilderness park where we go hiking. A PDF is available for it here: Aliso and Wood Canyon Wilderness Park. I'll give you a quick list of differences between the maps we've discovered when hiking this park. I'm not sure if the results are typical for other regions... Now, calling your attention to the upper left of the map:

1) Garmin TOPO 100K / Topo 2008. The only trail shown is West Ridge Trail. West Ridge is actually an old fire road and is shown on USGS 24K topos. Here, it is not named and shown only as a dotted line.

2) Garmin 24K West DVD - Shows no indication of any trails at all - not even the West Ridge Trail.

3) Magellan Summit Series - All trails in the wilderness park are shown with the major trails labeled - very surprising!

Hope that helps some!

- Steve

I'm just wondering how the Summit Series maps compare to the Garmin Topo 24k maps generally. I've heard the Magellan maps have more detail. Is this correct?

Specifically, I've been looking for an apples to apples comparison of the two (I haven't been successful in finding that). I live in Southeast Tennessee and for my use and need maps with many trails marked on the topo map.

Thanks for any advice you all can give.
