Hi,

the main issue is Triton RMP. It was built quick&dirty and therfore produces these black borders.

I am looking inito to produce an alternative tool, but this will take a while.

Thanks for the reply Morel. I agree MOBAC is simpler, but creating my own maps has several advantages. Most important to me are setting the resolution and having land status on the quad. I also know my land status coverage is more accurate than the AccuTerra data.

I think I understand what you are saying about the calibration. Is there a way to ensure the calibration does not extend past the image?

The other issues are not real problems. Thanks againa for your help.

1. The black border comes from the calibration not being exact with the image corners (the calibration file has the corners extending beyond the image corners)

2. I would guess that VP is showing a gap because of the image size and magnification when viewing in VP

3. The orange boxes cannot be turned off. Disable a particular map and that box will disappear

4. A simpler way to create the maps would be to use Mobile Atlas Creator and select Terraserver-USA Map for the download

I cannot use my NG State Series, but I have a nice option. I have access to USGS 7.5-min quads and other data at work and have begun creating files with Triton RMP and RMP Tools. Here are the basic steps:

1. Export jpeg files with a quad raster image, hillshade, and land status at 1000 dpi from ArcMap.
2. Crop the images in Google Picasa3.
3. Georeference in Triton RMP and run through RMP Tools.
4. Transfer to unit in VP.

Here are a couple of screenshots to illustrate the questions.

The first image shows two parallel orange lines where the two adjacent maps meet. This appears to be overlap of the images and they match up pretty well. The second image shows two other maps that have black edges around them and only one orange line where the two maps meet. All of the jpegs that were imported to Triton RMP had the map image in the entire frame all the way to the edge (i.e., no border around the image). Here are my questions:

1. Where are the black edges coming from? If the images were cropped too much I would expect two parallel orange lines with a gap between them, but not black borders inside the orange box.

2. VP shows a gap between maps for the first image, which show up fine on the GPSr. Is this just a flaw in VP or is something else going on?

3. Is there a way to turn off the orange boxes? I like to see them when zoomed out far enough that the raster image is not displayed, but would turn them off when zoomed in if I could.

4. Is there a simpler way to convert the files for the Explorist? I can export georeferenced jpegs, but as far as I know I need Triton RMP to convert the file format. Would exporting a georeferenced jpeg buy me anything?

I know there's a lot of expertise out there. Hope someone can help. Thanks.
