Sometimes there is too much info on the map so I will un-check the POI.
I use the City/Summit series as my default map on my 710, but I'm always changing maps to get what gives me the best map of where I happen to be.
Some places it's Maps4Me, sometimes it's Summit and sometimes it's Jungle Ghost's.

Denis, if you tap the OSM map (not the check box) you will see the POI files with their check boxes;

I downloaded the USA South & West. Both have separate POI files. Now, I notice in my GPS, the separate POI files are listed and have a check box by them...so I can indicate to load them or not.

Good news, glad it worked ! Yes, that would likely be the case for the POI's. Which map area did you download ? The Canada maps I've downloaded don't have a POI file (that I've seen yet), all the POI data is integrated in the map already.

I prefer Sockeye's maps for the accuracy and more recent data but use the Summit maps (c/w the 610) as well, among other maps.

Many thanks to denisetdoris & Sockeye for their explanations that solved my problem. 🙂

FWIW, I extracted the zipped files on my computer as instructed (a map & a poi file for each area) and copied them to my sd card on my x710 (slow) and to Vantage Point(VP), which went very fast.

I notice in VP I have to "check the block" for the POI file to load, whereas in the x710, only the map file shows for selection. I assume the POI file has been absorbed by the map file in the case of the x710?

Easily done. Go to the folder where they're stored on your pc, right-click, then press Extract All. This will unzip the folder into a new one where you'll find the map files. Connect the unit to the pc, it will appear as an external drive. Copy the map file and Paste it in the Map folder on the unit, and you're done. Restart the unit, then click the Maps icon, then select the map you want.

I have been lurking on this forum for several days and have decided to replace my x600 with a x710. I have been working to learn all about it as it is different from my old GPS.

I decided to pay for & order the Maps 4 Me, but my problem is that while I downloaded the maps to my PC (zipped files), I don't understand how to get them onto my GPS or Vantage Point.... I am hoping that Sockeye or some other knowledgeable person can tell me how to execute this task. Thanks!
