Yeah, I've tried a few things without joy.

I know it's an unoffical forum, but just in case Magellan ever look here, it'd be a nice feature if they could offer a "map transfer service". Maybe an .exe you download, where it checks that you have one of these map SD cards, you then put a new card in, and it transfers the authorisation and maps to the new card, reformatting the old one. This way they keep their copyright in tact and it makes customers happy 😀

My experience is that any maps provided on a SD card from Magellan will only be authorised when the SD card is in the unit. I have tried unsuccessfully to transfer Magellan SD card maps to the internal memory of the unit and I would assume that trying to transfer them to another SD cards would likewise fail.

If you crack this you'll be one of the first! There is a CID programmed into each SD Card Manufactured and if the maps are copied onto anything except that card, they're not going to work. My TOPO3D USA Maps do work if Vantage Point, but they will not work when copied to any device or onto any SD Card except the origianl.

You can read all about the digital CID on the SD Cards by looking it up on the internet, but unless you're a top notch programmer/hacker your pretty much just wasting your time and effort.

I can say this from experience, but at one time I too was having the problem you're having and although I was able to find the needed software items to get into the files, isolating the SN/ID after that is another challenge and I quickly realized that it simply isn't worth the time or the legal issue involved, because there are way to may other map options available for these GSPrs to mess with doing this!

Copying the exact contents doesn't work either. 🙁

Probably the old "maps are keyed to the sd card" trick again, like we've seen on other devices and maps.

I should have read this thread:

https://www.exploristforum.com/.....38;id=1851

Doesn't seem to be possible. I have noticed on the SD card a couple of files that contain things like serial numbers. Currently I'm trying to copy the exact contents over (serial numbers included) to see if that might work (highly doubtful). It's a bit annoying, I understand the need for the copy protection, but at the same time it would add to the usefulness of having expandable memory if I could actually expand the memory without losing a good set of maps that are legally mine...

Thanks.

I've tried formatting the card but without any luck, VP still says about the maps not being authorised. The maps in VP were transferred from the 710 through VP, so I don't think that's an issue. I might try just directly copying the files instead, but doubt it'll work.

If I choose to upload the maps anyway they are listed on the device in the "maps" page, but have a cross next to them and are unselectable.

I would suggest you format the new card in the 710.
Then try to load the maps to it from Vantage Point.
Plus copy the maps on the 4gb card to VP from the 710, not from the card removed from the 710

When you format the card you will lose everything on it, so copy anything on the new card to your pc.

When in trouble or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout

Hello all.

My 710 Came bundled with the OS 50k UK maps on a 4gb SD card, the maps are so big it leaves about 600mb on the sd card free.

I'd like to swap the 4gb card with an 8gb card, but when trying to transfer the maps across in vantage point I'm getting a notice about the maps not being authorised for the device. I've checked around and the only mention I can find about authorizing cards is about the Navmate 300 and the page directs to a non-existant page on the magellan website?

Any help is appreciated.
