Most likely because the ratio of windows programmers vs. android/etc. is about 5415154264151651526/1 :woohoo:

I didn't know that many of their products used CE so that does make sense.

My Maestro 4000 appears to be running the same operating system as my Triton 400. Win CE!

The Magellan outdoor GPS product line, the Triton, which was the predecessor to the exploristGC, also used Windows CE. Since they already owned the development tools and programmers were already familiar with CE, it makes good management sense to stay with CE.
(If it is the same group of code developers, let's hope they learned from the Triton mistakes!?)
As a programmer yourself, cmoewes, is it easy to become proficient on multiple platforms (CE & Linux)?

Not to be an anti-Windows slob, but I wonder what the decision process was to go with Windows CE for the GC platform (I noticed the Windows CE license sticker when I was looking for my serial number).

With so many other devices running some variant of embedded Linux (especially Android) I wonder why they opted for a Windows platform.
