JKB,

I just tried my GC and when I selected "Start Trip" it also froze; however, after a couple of minutes if finally came back to life and the Trip Odometer was reset and the unit was working properly. I don't understand why it would take so long for it to reset; however, it did work.

I had a similar situation on my Triton 2000. I was very frustrated and had a lot of ideas about the reason.... I found that this was due to some kind of problem with the SD card (Sandisk card purchased from Jungle Ghost). After changing to another card the problem disappeared.
Maybe you should check this out if you have an SD card installed ?

I've been trying to duplicate your problem but my GC is not doing the freeze thing that is happening with your unit.
What I did find is that if I set a 'go-to' for a cache or a waypoint the trip odometer, trip times, speed, etc are indicated in the trip summary.
I didn't actually go to the cache, it's 300 miles away, but the trip summary showed my distance, etc as I was running some errands around town.

I think there is something wrong with your GC unit for it to freeze up like that.
I would assume it to be software but it may be hardware that's bad.
But using a go-to route instead of 'start trip' may be a work around for you until someone figures out what's wrong with your GC.

Sorry, but I have no more ideas for you to try.

Yes, all tracks, time, etc.. were reset before my trip. I wanted to check the route distance and if I did not use the 'start trip' function would not be recorded in the 'trip summary'.

The 'map + compass' indicated in the menu should indicate the same which I see in my map window... I would assume! If map only.. that too is what I expect to be shown. This really no big deal but I just like to see the distance (trip odometer) and enroute times indicated in the unit after completing a trip. This should be a 'basic' feature of any gps!

Thanks for you input.

My GC has never done what you describe.
I don't want to sound like a wiseguy but don't use the 'start trip' activation if it works when you don't use it.
One question, have you reset track, trip odometer, time, etc?
I'm thinking maybe you've reached max memory for tracks?

When you select 'map+compass' you get the compass overlay on the map.
When you select 'map' you get just the map.
The menu is showing your option, not what's selected.
Click enter on 'map' or 'map+compass' to select it.

Contiguous to my earlier post (my GC freezes)... and it still does... at least when in 'start trip' activation! This lock-up in a fully lit map screen, with coordinates and all fields frozen, this remains until batteries are fully removed from the unit.

I also notice that 'map + compass' shows the map only ... and you get both when just 'map' is selected!

Any similar experiences with the Explorist GC out there?
