Well, the test you are doing doesn't really tell you anything about power use.
There are so many variables while using the GPSr that getting an accurate power usage reading is impossible.
Depending on temperature, usage and battery type - 3 to 12 hours!

I get the most run time with Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries.
Run times vary from 6 hours to 12,

The Duracell Alkaline are next best, 5 to 10 hours.

Rechargeable batteries I've tried;

The Hyperkin 10000 mAh Portable Power supply - about 30 hours then the AA batteries in the unit took over.

Power Gienix NiZn 2500 - 4 to 8 hours.
Sanyo Enloop 1900 - 4 to 6 hours

In really cold conditions the batteries die very quickly and the unit will not work anyway!
A hand warmer in a mitten with the unit helps a lot.

The Sanyo Enloop are the only rechargeable I now use, they hold a charge, in my pocket as spares, much longer than any other.

I use Lithium non-rechargeable now most of the time, they are lighter (I can carry more spares) and last the longest.

The bottom line is that these units eat batteries, turning off the high power options and having the screen light real dim to save the batteries is defeating the purpose of using the 710, in my opinion. 😛

I am now resigned to using a lot of batteries.
But the 710 uses fewer batteries than the Triton 2000 did, and does so much more than the T2000 ever could. :woohoo:

When my toes are frozen, the unit won't work, all my batteries are dead and I have to find my way out the two dollar compass in my pocket always works! 😛

When in trouble or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout

That's a neat way to find out how long your batteries last ! I'll try that when I get mine this week ..... 😉

OK, as we all know, the touchsreen eX need a lot of power.
How long last your batteries?

I have

- Sanyo "XX" 2500 LSD rechargebles with 12:17 hrs.

Following settings: Alarm off, Map directing north, all sensors (Baro/Compass) off, Display light off.

Test run like that: Powered the unit on, cleared the existing track and let it lay, until the unit shut off. With new batteries, I can see on the track the time, when the unit quit.
This is by now the longest runtime, I could get with rechargebles.
Can someone with another energy source can run a similar test and write down the runtime?
