Best I can tell everything seemed to have worked perfectly. The compass which I had simply turned off now does seem to be working properly. I haven't had much time to try it out yet, but will give it a good workout shortly. 🙂

Thanks for the advice Sockeye,

I have only factory data on my internal memory now, and all my custom maps, media are on on my sd card.

sockeye,

that is exactly what i did. when prompted to unplug i did, then the message came up "battery is low connect to AC". that is when i plugged back in to usb port, but apparently it was too late. the unit went dark indexed, and locked at 96%. I would not respond or power down without removing the batteries.

I presume this was not caused by the power-source, but by the ugs.bin, geocache and track data.

I always recomend to clear all personal data from the device and reset it to factory settings, prior to updating the FW. This avoids complications and that configuration was tested by the FW developpers.

BUT:
Ensure you also have backed up your unit on your PC, especially any installed maps.

Denis
Is there a possibility that the FW update reset the Power(Active Suspend Timer) setting to its default time and it actually was in suspend mode.
I thought I had mine set to never suspend before the update and it was set for 5 mins after updating.

Funny you should mention, that happened to me when I fired it up at noon. When I went to leave 5 minutes later, it had powered down .... when I hit power, it started up again (like if it was in suspend mode), then indexed the database again. This has never happened before today (or last night, it happened once then too, with the newest FW ....), and I haven't changed any tracks. I did delete my geocaches and cache photos prior to the update, and reloaded them after. Strange.

The behavior is highly dependent on the amount of track info on the unit.
If the amount is just "right" (or wrong, actually) it will shut down permanently. With less data, or more data, it will "survive".
This is very annoying.
Phil, you wrote somewhere in the forum that you do experience the "rebooting device to improve performance" from time to time. Believe me, the day your amount of track data is "right", it will shut down during the indexing phase. Frustrating if you did not look at it for some minutes and you unexpectedly find it with a black screen.
This behavior is easy to reproduce...

When I updated my 710, with fully charged rechargeables, I got the batteries low notice when I unplugged it. I tapped 'OK' (or something to that effect) on the unit screen then just left it alone and it indexed data & rebooted with no trouble.

Just thought I would report my experience with the upgrade.

(I doubt that this fw has fixed this problem)

Well, I always use rechargeble ones. 😉

As Ii have the device connected via USB, I just pull the plug when asked for and then re-insert it again once the unit starts to reboot.

That worked out fine on all FWUpdates on the Tritons, eX310 and 610.

Sondre,

That is my exact scenario. Live and learn. I am going to try deleting the gpx files. maybe re-installing one more time.

Thanks

Soleful,

If you continue to have problems the first thing to try is to delete all of the GPX files in the Geocaching directory on the unit. If that doesn't work then try reinstalling the update.

No, it's for the 510/610/710.
And obviously it was posted in GC/General by mistake.

I know you can reset these units by pressing and holding the power button down for about 5 secs, however I am not too sure that would help when the firmware update was not successful.
I hope you can get help soon from someone a bit more knowledgable about the technical aspects of this than me.

Best of luck

Well I may have messed up my unit. It's freezing at 96% indexing and wont boot up!

Loaded the firmware to my unit, unplugged it when the wizard said too, then I noticed too late my batteries were low.

Any suggestions most appreciated.
