Same here Sockeye... my 710 displays it no matter if I have a Goto on or not. I vote to change it to what profile you have active.

Ok, here is the official word, from the designer himself, on the Hiker Icon on the X-Series units:

He shows up when you have an active GoTo or if you've selected Start from the main menu. Just a reminder that you're recording a track or in a GoTo.

Best regards,
Eric

Hope this helps… :cheer:

....mhmm and what exactly do I need to do to stop this icon showing?

It's nice to be able to get a quick answer to your questions now...:D, Now how about an update to help out with the units touchy screen, let us mod sounds, and maybe get the unit to boot a bit quicker, oh, yah, a million bucks every time it turns on directed to my bank account would be cool too! 😀

David, thanks for the answer. I guess they should have added that 'Mode' table from the GC manual to the x10 manual. But, I'm like Sockeye, the little guy's there on my 710 no matter if I have a Goto on or not.

Here's the GC doing the same thing from my front porch.

When in trouble or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout

On my 710 the hiker icon only shows when I'm on a go-to.
No route, no icon.
Doesn't matter what profile I'm in, always shows a hiker.

1st screen is on my porch.
2nd screen I set a go-to.
3rd screen I canceled route.

When in trouble or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout

I greatly apologize - I received the first message in Outlook as an RSS feed and for some reason I though we were talking about the eX610 - however, when coming back to the forum I realized that this is under the GC section in the forum, which makes a world of difference.

The GC manual says:

Image link: HikingManIcon.jpg

Basically, if you have a Goto Point selected, like a Geocaching, the Icon appears, but if no Goto Point is selected - No Icon. I tried it on my GC and that is exactly what happens!!!

I had noticed it change on the eX610, but it worked somewhat differently, however, the 610 I've been using is a proto type and it is taking a trip back to Magallen for testing purposes - the Protype is somewhat different from the Production model and they want to check some things on it. However, it is a great GPSr...

Sorry Again,
David

Hi,

I supposed it showed the outdoor / car navigation status. But posted pics of a 710 proved me wrong...

David, I understand the two different map modes but on the same page in the manual you reference, a picture of the map screen shows a little hiker icon (Mode) between the time and the satellite status icons. Switching between Pan mode and Navigate mode, the icon remains the same. I assumed it may be indicate what profile you are using as the icon is the same as the one used for the Hiking profile. Miniwhip thought it was an indicator for tracking. Does anyone know what this icon is suppose to communicate?

eXplorist 610 Manual Pg6:

The Map screen will be the screen you most commonly use and a
good understanding of its workings will enhance your experience with the Magellan eXplorist. The Map screen can be displayed in two modes,
Navigate and Pan. In Navigate Mode your current location is displayed along with a graphical indication of where you’ve travelled (track) and information about where you are going (route). In Pan Mode you can ‘pan’
around the map looking for places to go or places to create a waypoint.

Hope this helps,
David

tried turning tacking off and it didn't change. How can one find out what the 'Mode' icon means?

I think that means you're running a track.

Why does the Mode icon at the top of the map screen always stays in Hiking, even when I have my profile set for vehicle or geocaching. Does this icon represent something else?
