I've played for about two days with my eXplorist GC with the 1.7 update installed and am also seeing a map rotation/flip or basic directional change somewhat but not a rapid rotation that's being described in earlier posts. I'm guessing since this thing doesn't have an electronic compass it's just trying it's best to "guess" the current heading or possibly just confused or something along that line since we are not moving (which is what the GPS compass needs, yes?). The unit quickly recovers upon a slight walk in any direction.
I too have noticed a little better speed with regards to menu system interfacing and other items so that front seems like an improvement.
Other than the kinda given problem listed my unit seem to be just fine or at least as good as a $150 unit can be expected to perform. Still having some issues with my x710 tho...that's another story tho.

If you install 1.7 it will overwrite the 1.6 firmware, and essentially be a fresh start anyway. Note that you should erase your images (image and GC image folders), geocaches, waypoints before starting the update - this seems to be a cause for numerous post-update issues we're all learning about lately. Then just copy them back over after the update is complete.

Mine has been doing this as well. I have tried to downgrade the firmware, but i will not let me. Once we get close to a cache it is almost impossible to narrow down where it is.
Are you using a GC or a 710/610 ?
This thread is supposed to be about the GC.

Strangely some of us with the x10 line have been having a similar issue after updates... odd to hear that from a GC owner. I recently saw the map spin with low batteries, after taking a bunch of photos, the position arrow was spinning about 25-30 rpm's !

I posted about this a couple months ago in the 1.6 firmware thread, but there was no response. After installing 1.6, whenever I am stationary, the compass/map 'spins'. I have it set so that my direction of travel is the top of the map.
It did not do this prior to the firmware update. Is this a bug that anyone else is having? Is there something that can be done, or do I just have to live with it?
