I think I had a corrupted file somewhere in the memory.

Ok, I cleared all user memory from the unit. :pinch:
Then I rebooted from mass storage.
Then I reset everything I could think of.
Then I cleared all tracks. :X
YEA! It worked. ๐Ÿ˜›

I just reloaded 7889 caches to the unit using GSAK, works fine! Laugh
(all caches in Massachusetts I have not found)
The map scrolls, the tracks clear, I got my triad gold compass back & the unit is purring along perfectly. :woohoo:
I'm a happy camper again. :cheer:

That was a fun experience, maybe some day I'll learn to back-up all my stuff!

Hmmm, that's odd. Considering that's why I did the reset it in the first place (to fix that same 'track won't clear' issue). The factory reset fixed both my track won't clear AND the scroll issue. Obviously there are still bugs in this Firmware somewhere. I may try that 1.5 too, if I get brave. So far, everything seems to work, so I'm tempted to leave it alone.
I should also mention that after reseting it to factory defaults, the processer speed has gone back to normal. Beforehand, I could wait up to 10 seconds after pushing a button for it to action. I assumed it was a result of the track problem bogging it down, since it had to draw every track since I first updated the firmware.

No, it scrolls perfectly now.
The problem now is the tracks won't clear.
I can't find them (active track?) anywhere, cleared the only tracks I could find but when I show tracks on the map it's showing straight line tracks all over the map with a few real tracks thrown in here and there.
Except for the tracks everything else is now working perfect, I don't use the tracks very often so I'll just keep playing with it until I fix it or get the new 710.

Did you try to install the 1.5 europe firmware version?

I got a unit with this fw and donยดt have the same 10.000km bug problem like the unit with 1.4 has had.

Great! I cleared memory, reinstalled FW, tracks won't clear! ๐Ÿ™
Redid everything and update, tracks won't clear! ๐Ÿ™
At least it scrolls correctly.
So, if you want to use tracks I would not recommend doing anything if tracks work for you now.

October 25th for the 710 huh? :cheer:

Well this is strange, when I showed tracks on the map it showed all tracks since I bought it!
The map screen was mostly red!
When I cleared tracks it goes to mass storage mode and reboots, the tracks will not clear.

When you do the factory default it will clear your stats and awards.
But it seems to have fixed the scrolling problem.
Now I'll try to get my triad compass back!

Go to the setting screen, go down to memory and select it. When you are in the memory summary page, click the menu key then select factory reset.

SUCCESS!

My map scrolling issue is gone!
Here's my story. If it wasn't a fluke, maybe it will help others:

In addition to the map scrolling issue (and the others mentioned after the firmware update), I had a problem with not being able to clear tracks. It would go through the procedure and reboot and they were still there. If I manually deleted the file, the thing would crash until I put the file back. This was finally enough to prompt me to call Magellan. They had me do the usual steps including reinstall firmware etc. Nothing helped until they had me turn off the track feature and display on map and do a reset to factory default. This not only fixed the track bug, but the map scrolling issue was gone as well. It has not returned. To be safe, I reinstalled the firmware again after that, but the issue was actually cleared up with just the reset. I'm not talking the pin hole reset on the bottom of the unit, but the factory default setting found in:

Settings>Memory>Menu>Restore Factory Defaults

I hope this works for you...It was the single most frustrating issue for me since the thing came out. I've fallen in love with it all over again.
Now just a few of those tweaks with a new firmware would be nice, but it's working like a charm again.

This is one of the most frustrating aspects of this device.

You are not alone, this happens to me EVERY time I am out and it doesn't appear to have a preference to what scale you are working out... Typically I will scroll to the top of the map, stop, and then click up one more time and find myself 10,000 miles away...

There is no getting around this, and I ended up in a situation where i really needed to see where i was and the device would not allow me show the map.

The only workaround is to turn around, and let the map change direction, then scroll in a different direction.

Just thought I'd throw my $0.02 in and say that I also have this problem.

OK, here's what the memory says;

It still screws up when I scroll in the last direction I traveled, sometimes, sometimes it works fine. The only pattern I've found is scrolling the last direction traveled.

For those having this problem, I will suggest that you check the memory use... tools, settings, memory. Report what you have in this thread.

Yep, I have the same problem...Seems to happen about half the time I scroll off of the current page.

Anybody heard from Magellan regarding this?

That isn't likely the cause in my case. I've actually turned that feature off, as I prefer to zoom in and out manually.

When I scroll it literally jumps. As you scroll, the distance is displayed at the top, indicating how far from your current position your cursor is. It starts panning/scrolling fine, telling me how far away I am, as the cursor moves away from my current location. I'll get the cursor part way across the screen (sometimes right to the edge of the screen, sometimes only part way), then with one little tap further it either tells me I am hundreds to even a few thousand+ km away, or it tells me I am 0km away, but my screen is completely blue, as if the cursor is in the middle of the water.

The zoom level hasn't changed during this.

Pressing back, brings the cursor directly back to my original (current) position, again same zoom level as I started. I'll try from there to pan again, and same things happens. I've tried moving only a quick tap or two away, and letting the map re-centre with my cursor position, thinking that I was just running the cursor too fast off the side of the screen, but I can still recreate the issue when I do this (not as frequently, but it still does it).

Thanks for the idea - it would make sense that it may try doing that - it just isn't the case for me.

I don't know for sure if this is the cause of your problem but there is a feature that Magellan calls "Auto Zoom".
Find it at Tools, Settings, Map Options, Auto Zoom, On/Off.
From the name, it sounds like it might automatically zoom out to keep both the cursor and your present position visible on the screen as you scroll.
On the other hand, I might just be imagining this.

Jevre,

Sounds like you and I are on the exact same page except that it is usually my son yelling at me, while I'm driving, while we are looking for geocaches along our preset route. I've tried the zoom out to see where the display has us but it is of little use so we end up hitting the back button and hoping that we can scroll again. Usually, like you, we need to power down the unit and turn it back on again to get the scroll function back. I'm thoroughly convinced that it started happening after we upgraded our software to 1.4.

This is something that I am noticing time and time again.

I will say first off I really like my GC. There are a few things that still need to be ironed out, but I am very hopeful.

On with the gripe...

When our family goes on road trips, my husband is the driver, and I am the route maker.

I work out our routes on the road by panning through the map on the GC, choosing which cache to do in what order - always trying to keep a few caches ahead of ourselves (to keep us on the move as much as possible).

Because of this I am constantly panning the map. As I'm panning through, it is thoroughly aggravating to have to hit back on the unit - especially if I have already "gone forward" for some distance, and will have to re-find where on the map I left off.

I've zoomed out to see where it had "taken me", and it often appears as though it has taken me to the very edge of the map on the unit most times. Sometimes it puts me on land, sometimes on water, depending on it's "mood".

I have found it to occur more frequently when I am zoomed relatively close (200-400m or less), but I have recreated it a zoom levels farther out (1-2km+). Whether it happens plugged in vs not plugged in: I only really use it on battery. I seem to have fewer occurrences when the compass is turned off on the mapscreen than when it is on. I've also tried moving the cursor extremely slowly, and moving it fast - it doesn't make a difference. Also, once it has "jumped" once, it'll keep doing it in that position, until I've fussed with it (turning if off, changing screens, etc, etc).

As with others, it only appeared after the upgrade.

I'm hoping that this will be one of those items fixed with a future (hopefully soon) update, as my husband doesn't appreciate my potty-mouth when I am trying to figure out what cache to look for next... :side:
