The power setting when I put mine in the cradle goes away by the time I put on my seat belt and put it in gear. The one for the backlight warning stays on the screen forever, until you hit Enter.

That's beginning to bug me too.

I know this isn't the Triton forum, however, I use my T1500 in a RAM Mount in my Jeep all the time and I have a power cable running to it through the mount and I never have a problem when I pop it out - which I do everytime I jump out to grab a cache, though I do have to press enter about the power when I put it in the cradle.

And I agree. If it weren't for the cool maps we make for our Tritons, I wouldn't have bought one either, I'd have grabbed an Explorist 500 on clearance at Canadian Tire. (and I still might anyway). I used my Triton this weekend for a geocache trip out of town, and I really like it for some things, but find the explorists were easier to navigate between screens, and was easier to get the hint through the menus. The triton has to be on the map screen, then you hover he icon over the gc, press enter, then scroll to Details to read the data.

The other little thing that bugs me is that you have to press Enter every time you take it out of the holder/battery cable and the battery warning pops up about the backlight.

So I might surprise the wife and get her the new Explorist GC as a gift for her coming birthday. She deserves it, and I think the unit will be decent.

Na...

I really do hope that this new unit is a real winner. Although I don't know if I'll ever buy one, the screen shots do look pretty cool and it would be nice to see a new quality GPS to compete with the Garmans at a much lower cost - which is why I bought my first Magellan and the 4 others I've bought since. So I guess I should stop whinning - though I would like to see at least one more firmware update for the Triton, I love using my Tritons in the field. Actually I might consider buying my bosses 1500 from him so he can buy a GC!!!

David,
Would 30 pieces of silver make you feel any better?
😉

I (Randy) am the guy, and therefore entitled to hold and control the TV remote and of course the GPSr.

No reason to feel like a traitor. This unit is designed for a completely different purpose, AND designed under a completely new company. I'm excited to see MiTak take the reigns, and hope they continue the communication with end users that they have been.

There shouldn't be any frustrations as long as you know what you are getting and what to expect with the new Explorist GC. It's designed for geocaching ease and little else.

I can't beleive I just did what I did! I'm going to be honest, I am more than a little upset with Magellan with their lack of concern or loyality to there Triton customers, because they have appeared to drop the ball on the Triton and they have yet to deliver the whole package that was originally promised - i.e., the trip funcationality and I'm truly suprised, although I'm not a sueing type of person myself, that someone hasn't started a class action lawsuit for false advertisement and representation. If they would just so a truely good faith effort to finish what they started, instead of, or at least before, putting out RoadMate software for the iphone and this new unit I believe they would settle a lot of Triton ower's doubts about the Magellan name.
This is why I can't believe that I just recommended that my boss, who is getting into Geocaching and it extremely NOT technical consider looking at the new unit. I truly hope I'm I haven't lost my mind and I truly hope I'm not sending him down a path of frustration like I experienced with my Tritons the first several months I had them! :S

Ok, I'm glad to get that off of my chest!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing all of the HOPEFULLY, great comments about this new unit!
