Cmoewes has a good point too, I forgot about the waypoint thing.

Glad to hear it worked! BTW, 1.4 should hit any day now. Usually you will nee a VP update right before a device update.

Depending on what tool you are using, don't forget to look in the Waypoint/ directory as well as the Geocaches/ for .gpx files. GSAK creates the Waypoints gpx file.

My problem was with a waypoint that had a triple exclamation point (!!!) at the end of it.

I deleted (and banned) that waypoint from my GSAK database and all has been good.

Try to hold menu+up+power at the same time, and see if you can connect to the PC. If you can, delete your GPX file, and it will come back.

Well, my unit that has been working fine will not boot up now.
I have not been able to get it to do anything except spin the radar image and not boot up.

No response from Magellan, I'll try to contact them again tomorrow but I don't have much hope, Maggie has always been useless with customer support.

This has been a bad week for me & my Magellan stuff, my Roadmate app on my iphone stopped working Saturday after working fine since Feb.

Hmmm, not sure if I should try the Triton tonight, this may be contagious!

Maybe you can find some info on this page:

https://www.closerlooksearch.c.....ornia.html

However, I will say that about a year ago I spend several hours trying to find a contact and even found the phone number to the Vice President of the Company and a couple of other higher ups, but I never got a reply. To be honest, the best contact that I know of for anything to do with Magellan is Craig (Miniwhip), he seems to have their ear!

Well, the customer service with Magellan isn't inspiring me with any confidence.

After my replacement unit was defective, they were supposed to setup an immediate replacement and ship it overnight. 5 days later I call, the order wasn't setup, the unit never shipped. They are supposed to be setting it up again now, and (of course) the warehouse closes at 3:00pm. Think I am going to get it tomorrow?

Does anyone on this board know how I can contact someone in Magellan or MiTAC. I can't seem to find any contact info for addressing a letter to them.

Ok, a little update here. I had been looking for this option before but didn't know where to find it until it was posted on the Magellan Outdoors facebook page. Factory Reset to Defaults, which can be found by going to Settings -> Tools -> Memory -> press MENU button -> select reset to factory defaults. I did this with mine and afterwards it's booted up without issue. I reloaded a whole load of caches back on it and have been able to shut it down and start it up with no problem every time. However, I'm holding my breath. This really all started after it froze up on me while I had the trip odometer running and tracking on. So a little more testing is going to be happening before I declare my problem solved for the moment. This at least will resolve my problem until the software update is released.

I opted not to send mine in for RMA in favor of waiting it out for the software update. If that doesn't fix the issue then RMA it will be. But with a little patience I can turn on my GC and it works normally, even though it does freeze up every once in a while as well. We'll see.

Not very impressed with the handling on my RA. 3 days after they received my returned unit, they still hadn't processed my replacement order.

Hope others are having better results (if they were the lucky few with a defective unit).

I got my RMA approval via email, but I'm not sure if I'm going to do it. Since I can still use it and make it boot up I am seriously thinking I will hold onto it until the new software is released and see if it fixes my problem.

I haven't seen that one yet, thank god. Looks like your closer to an RMA than I am. I'll have to keep my eye out for that one.

I dunno, I've read some forum posts and also responses from them on their official facebook page that this has been seen already in a handful of units with the suggestion that the update coming out this month will fix it and improve a bunch of other things. I'll give it a day or two and see how I want to proceed with this.

I say RMA it. You may have stumbled upon a bug that the testers, or the software team didn't catch, and could be giving Maggie some great meat for the developers.

Interesting, I have been having a similar problem here, getting stuck at bootup ever since I tried to upload some stuff from VP and VP crashed. Now I have to hit the reset button multiple times before it reboots normal again. I've physically deleted all the caches/waypoints/images and tracks and it's still doing it. So I don't know what happened or how to recover from it, but I'm getting a little annoyed...

Edit: Well, apparently Magellan support has now gotten back to me about my own little problem (which clearing images or anything else fixed) and wants me to RMA it. Are you kidding me? Unit freezes up and now it needs to be sent back because it's broken? Come on, I was really liking this unit. How come they don't have some simple option to restore to factory or software that will wipe out the unit and reprogram it. And it doens't look like I'm the only one that it's happened to so far. They did mention on the facebook posting that I left for them that there is a software update coming in May so maybe this little glitch if fixed... Do I RMA or do I wait for the update?

It was all the images that were the problem. After clearing them out, I updated again without the use images flag.

Interesting! I wonder if too many images can cause a lockup? I will have to inquire about that.

Well, not sure how, but I was able to get it to boot and mount it from my laptop.

Found out the underlying issue was that including the images for all my caches, I had filled the GC disc up and so when it tried to write the gpx file it was corrupt. This seems to have caused the unit to choke.

Either that, or since I am using gsak to transfer my caches, I wasn't checking the 'clear caches' option, so it created a new file every time so the boot up which scans the gpx files to update the internal database was taking forever.

I had held down some buttons while restarting the unit, I think I might have inadvertently found the "don't reload gpx files" startup... or I just got lucky
