I installed v1.6 of the firmware a couple weeks ago. With the new version, it seems to update better when I am close to a cache. Before the update, it wouldn't refresh fast enough. However, now when I stop moving, the compass/map 'spin'. I have it set so that my direction of travel is the top of the map.

Is this a new bug, or is it directly related to updating more frequently when close to a cache?

Used v1.6 on a caching hike yesterday. Even though the stated improvements were supposed to help when close to the cache, we still overshot and had to backtrack about 40 ft. I guess we walk too fast.
The averaging function for marking a new cache allows 2 minutes time to average but always finishes within 10 seconds.

I (Randy) am the guy, and therefore entitled to hold and control the TV remote and of course the GPSr.

I just installed the up-date, went smooth with no problem.
Today I'll get out and try the GC to see how the updates work.

The GC is my back-up now, I haven't used it in weeks because I'm really loving the 710.

I received the Explorist GC for Christmas and upgraded to 1.6 and it seemed to install without any problems.

VantagePoint didn't recognize the update, had to go to the Magellan wed site to find it. The update says:

This sustaining release includes all the benefits of the 1.4 Version released in May (Click Here to see eXplorist GC V. 1.4 Benefits) as well as the following updates:

Bad Nav Fields (related to bad positioning close to destination).
Position averaging bug when placing geocaches.
Smart Arrow slow down.

I'm suprised that no one has said anything about the update from the GC that was released a couple of days ago! Firmware v1.6 is out!

Merry Christmas,
David
