I have had this same thing happen to me, so when I've been out on a caching trip the first thing I do when I connect my GC or eX610 to the computer is to make a copy of the log file off of the unit onto my desk top. What I found was happening was that when I open VP with the unit connected to the computer - VP ask me if I to log my caches, so I answer yes - however, I then realized that I need to go something different and I closed the Internet Explorer Windows that it opened for me, wrong answer!!! That whipped the log file out and everything was gone...

Try logging a couple more caches and see if it will work knowing this information and make sure and make a backup before opening VP... Sometimes I just to straight to Field Notes in GC.com and open the backup file that I've copied to my desktop and then whip out the log after I'm finished...

I was out on a caching blitz with some friends a few days ago. I faithfully marked each found cache as "Found" on my explorist GC. Now that I am home several days later, I want to log those on geocaching.com
I get the exploristGC connected to VantagePoint, and click the four color geocaching.com logo on the VP toolbar, but the function "Publish logs from My GPS..." is greyed out and inoperative.
So then I try another method that is written in the exploristGC manual: I log into my profile page, click "Access Your Field Notes", then find the Magellan exploristGC section and click the "here" link to upload field notes, go to the Magellan tab which looks like this:

To upload Field Notes from your Magellan eXplorist GPS Receiver:

1. Plug your eXplorist device into your computer with a USB cable and click "Connect to PC".
2. Click "Choose File" on this web page and go to the MAGELLAN drive on your computer.
3. Open the Geocaches folder and select the file named "newlogs.txt" or "logs.txt". Click "Open".
4. Click "Upload Field Note" on this page to upload your Field Notes.
5. We recommend that you delete the "newlogs.txt" or "logs.txt" file on your device once your Field Notes have been successfully uploaded.

Once the Field Notes are uploaded you can return to the Field Notes list page to start logging your finds.

I reboot the exploristGC and Connect to PC, as in instruction #1.
At instruction #2, there is no "Choose File" on the web page. However there is a Browse box. I assume that what they mean by the "Magellan drive on your computer" is the TFAT(J:). I find a file named newlogs.txt under the Geocaches folder under the TFAT(J:), highlite that and click Open. Then click "Upload Field Note". This does nothing but bump me back to the Garmin tab. But something was supposed to happen, so I click on "Return to Field Notes" and the page tells me "No logs have been found for your account at this time."

What's wrong?

To quickly answer my own question, look like a problem with FireFox (VP seems to use IE under the hood).

I keep trying to use the field notes from gc.com but whenever I upload the file directly using my browser it doesn't seem to work, but if I use VP it does.

Any ideas?
