Maybe Magellan made that change so that the caches you haven't found now are jittering around saying "Find me! Find me! Find me!!!!"

:woohoo: :silly:

I apologize for not responding to my original post. I could never get my unit working again. It has been sitting around since I originally had this problem and now it will not even turn on even if I use the USB or batteries for power. It is still sitting on my desk; if anyone is willing to buy my old unit off of me let me know but remember that it currently does NOT turn on.

What I ended up doing was going to Best Buy and buying a new unit. I didn't really wanted to buy a new one; was nice though because it was only $130. Also, it is one of the new units with the new screen that is supposed to be easier to read in the sun (I don't know if it really is). The weird thing is that the images of the caches, not the pictures but the single / multi / puzzle images seem to jump up and down just a tiny bit.

Did you find a solution for the black screen. If so, can you describe the process of reviving it? Thanks.

Try pressing the reset button while holding menu + up + power button.
You need a pin, the reset button is beside the usb plug.

You also need a third hand. 🙂

When in trouble or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout

My GC was purchased around Oct 2010 and has been working fine since. Just today I connected my GC to my computer to load new caches on it via Vantage Point. After that was done I disconnected the USB cable so it could restart and load the caches in. When I unplugged the USB cable, the only thing the GC did was shut off.

Now when I try to turn on the GC nothing happens. I do not get anything on the screen, it stays black when I try to turn the unit on. Installing fresh batteries, trying to turn the unit on without batteries and just a USB cable connected, holding "menu + up + power button", does nothing. Any ideas since it would be out of warranty? I love this unit but I don't want to spend another $150 on a new unit.
