Thanks David,

hope Magellan won´t forget the GC when the x10 Series launches 😉
the gc is really the nicest little thing for caching since I got my first gps in 2006

Of course anytime Magellan host something it is going to be a promotion of their products, however, it was very laid back. They did have some GCs free to use for anyone who wanted to try one. But for the most part everyone kind of hung out and went caching and picking up some trash, since it was a CITO event. Actually Justin, the Magellan Rep. and the guy that went with me got to go out for a couple of hours of caching, which was really cool, because we got to see Justin's 710 in action and it is a nice unit. And in the end Magellan also treated us to a really nice lunch. 😛

troylee,

Yes, there are people here in contact with Magellan - Miniwhip is one of them. However, I will tell you that I was at an event yesturday and was told that they know about the problem and we should see something in the not so distant future.

first of all I want to say "Hello" to the gc-community.

second thing is to say sorry for my english, I hope you understand my prolems and my opinions.

after my very short portrait I have my first questions 🙂

is anybody of this forum in contact with Magellan? e.g. sockeye (mit dem ich auch auf deutsch kommunizieren könnte :-))
Is there a release date for the 1.5 fw?
the eX gc is a very nice unit, but some things are really stupid.
the problem with the "found" status if you import the pq
the problem with the "jumping map"
the problem the gc is so slow, so you run 20m behind the point
the problem with the german translation (not so important, reading english words are much easier for me than writing, so i turned the language to english.

Does anybody know the answers to this question?

regards
troylee

I have to agree with you miniwhip....very neat indeed....

Now if maggie could fix just a few things that they broke in this update and a few more things left out of this update that are still outstanding this would possibly be the worlds best geocaching unit.

I just ordered the receiver from BestBuy.com. I originally used the eXplorist 400, tried the Triton when the 400 quit. I got frustrated and bought a Garmin. I'm looking forward to using a Magellan again. How has the new eXplorist been doing?

From the 1.4 release notes:

“Ground Zero" animation to provide visual cues in addition to audible cues when closing in on geocache location

anyone try this to know what this is like? I haven't had a chance to find a cache with the new version....

Assuming you have your GPX file on you Linux machine try doing a quick

grep '!!!' filename.gpx

I had trouble with a waypoint with a triple exclamation

Also, make sure you check your geocahces and your waypoints. Mine was actually a waypoint to an earth cache here in Minnesota.

I updated my new Magellan eXplorist GC GPS firmware yesterday and it didn't recognize the GPX files that were in the unit. I loaded in a file at a Meet & Greet Event here in Michigan last night and it still worked.
Then I loaded in a bunch of GPX files and it locked up at the boot screen every time.
Magellan Support helped me get it working again over the phone by invoking "developer mode". UP+MENU+POWER (while connected to my PC)until you get a gray screen. I then deleted all GPX files but afterwards compass.exe wouldn't load and boot. They instructed me to re-download the update, which I did, and it now works again.
Now, I'm afraid to drop GPX files into it and lose functionality again.
I hate having to use a Windows PC and Vantage Point just to load files.
It was working fine before with my several Linux PCs.

I have noticed the "Found" Status thing isnt really any different to the old version either....I want my PQ read properly....This is so damn frustrating.

I don't understand why the GPX XML tags can't be processed and mapped to the "Found" status. In GC.COM's own
My Finds Pocket Query
Found caches include this tag:
Geocache Found
GSAKs export seems to indicate found status a bit differently oddly enough:
Geocache|Unknown Cache|Found
but neither produced 🙂 which makes me 🙁

Is it only me that is bothered by the unit not reflecting my previously found caches? Am I wrong to assume this should have been a trivial requirement and that others would also appreciate?

I am now going to send ONLY non-found caches, but sometimes it is useful to have these found ones along side.

Clean install for me also.
Map runs better, track now works and the sun and moon are where they belong!
Have not tried loading caches yet, will try later tonight and see what happens.

So far, WOO HOO! I'm a happy camper!

When in trouble or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout

humm, first attempt to send from GSAK 2.5K caches did NOT appear to have my 'found' status reflected...anyone else have luck doing this?

I don't think that the GC can figure out your found items for you. It doesn't know your GC.com userid so it can't have any way to know from the gpx files which ones you have found.

I am personally trying to write a script to parse the found PQ file and directly update the database in the GC, but that probably doesn't obey the EULA. I will post if/when I get it figured out (currently stuck on one tiny detail dealing with the date format in the database).

Check the Magellan website, the 1.4 GC update is out. It loaded smoothly and only took a few minutes. Can't wait to try it out.
