I bought a Explorist GC a little more than a year ago and have only used it like 10 hours. I bought a house and and haven't had time to get out and use it in like 6 months. I just pulled it out of the drawer and tried to power it up and it didn't come on. I put new batteries in it and still nothing. I checked the forum and tried every thing everybody posted and still nothing. I fear it's dead, just sucks and i'm very disappointed that it died. I'm hoping maybe someone might have a idea on how to get it working again. Maybe I can get exchanged or something. When it worked it worked sweet and I loved it, I just don't see why it died from just sitting in a drawer for 6 months.

FM,

Try this.  First put in some new batteries.

Turn the unit on .. Hook the USB cable to the PC…  then .. and you will need three hands for this …

Simultaneously, hold the MENU button down, Joystick UP and the POWER BUTTON ON.

There is a reset switch under the USB port cover.   Insert a paper clip or thin screw driver in it and hold it in while the buttons are pushed.  On the GC we just wedge the screwdriver against our stomach as we do not have the third hand.

If this does not work try the commands above without the reset being reactivated.

If the first time does not work .. do the complete session again.  Sometimes it takes up two to third times for the hidden switch to work.

Be persisted, the unit will fire up and you will connect to the PC.

Now download the GC firmware version 2.15 .. start it up and when the software asks for the GPS to be connected hook the unit back up to the PC and redo the start sequence above.

After you connect .. start the firmware update.
