Interesting. OK, works for me. Could be that Garmin is doing it the same way now, who knows. This is my first new handheld since. 2006.

Welcome Mr. Yuck,

When the GC, or any of the X-Series units, shows that it will take 2 minutes, it is basically saying that in poor conditions it could take up to that amount of time. However, the unit continues to test the readings and when they get to a point that they are readily the same over several readings it then stores them and moves on.

I was going to start a topic on the Add a Geocache averaging function, but I guess I don't have to now. By the way, Got one for Christmas 2011, been lurking here for months, finally created an account.

The question is, am I missing a setting here somewhere? The GC will only average the coordinates for about 10 seconds on average, even though it says on the screen to wait 2 minutes. No issues with the coordinates obtained, but it's always done averaging so fast. I mean with all my Garmin units over the years, they weren't done averaging until I told them I was. :cheer:

Are you setting the GPS on top of the cache location and then going through the steps to add a new geocache? Normally with the units averaging function these readings will be very accurate; however, make sure the either hold it really still or set it down.

I have been using my Explorist for a few months now and it's been working great for me. I am attempting to hide my first cache but can't seem to get an accurate position. I don't expect it to pinpoint the exact location but the numbers I have been getting are so off that no one would have a hope of finding it! Is there anything I can do to get better results? Thanks!
