Cool, I didn't think about that! I'm going to Magellan HQ tomorrow and maybe on my way back I'll stop by Target and see what I can find!!! That will at least give me something to use until the RAM Mount comes out... I love RAM mounts!

Cool mount. I was wanting to try something very similiar, however, I was wanting to try to make an small slide to go on a RAM Mount ball, but I couldn't find a source for the poly here in this little town in the middle of the desert! 🙁

Find an inexpensive cutting board. They are often made out of polyethylene. Cuts up well on a table saw. Plexiglas might work too. Good luck

Below is the prototype I made at work with just a hacksaw and a heat gun. It started out as a small straight piece of polyethylene. I cut a slot on both sides of the polyethylene so that the GPS can be slid onto the mount. I used a heat gun to make one end of the mount U shaped. That U shaped end fits into my dash of my jetta. I say its a prototype because it looks bad. It works great though.

Thanks, it looks very nice.
Hopefully it will be available soon? :woohoo:

Hey David, I clicked your profile link by accident and saw the swirly .gif picture of the explorist line, really cool.
So I grabbed a copy of it for my profile on GC.com. B)

I'm very interested, how the Magellan mount will look like.

I don't have any insider info, but I highly suspect it will use the channel on the back of the unit to lock it in place.

It looks strong and able to withstand frequent clipping in and taking out of the GPS - not like the 600 cradle which broke the top clip after a while as it was too weak (had 4 of those, before I gave up!)

Unfortunately will have to wait until these x10 cradles are available in Australia. An $11.00 cradle will cost USD 58 for shipping

This is a link to the Ram universal finger mount cradle.
I used the long arm side clamps that came with it.
You have to order the mounting stuff (suction cup, bike mount, etc separately)

This is a better page on the Ram site;

Here's the Ram mount. It's their universal mount.
It holds the 710 fine, I've been off road on some God awful trails that shook & bounced everything in the truck and it held firm.
The fingers are adjustable springs to hold it as firm as you need and it still pulls out easily when you want to remove it.

The mount is "wrapped around" the eXplorist. It can not fall out to the Front.
I'm very interested, how the Magellan mount will look like.

I use something similar which has a higher back. I wrap a rubber band around the top for added safety, but on a corrugated road, it still popped out, fell on the dash and damaged the power fitting on the end of the lead.
C'mon RAM!

what do you think about this one:

(I know, it is no professional design, but fits like made for it 😛

My car provides nativ USB power source, so I can use a ordinary USB-cable.

I made this mount out of 3 different mobile phone car mounts and a lot of 2 component glue.
