The Hiking Icon is only seen when the unit is in ‘Goto a Route’. The meaning does not change with different screens. If you ‘Cancel the Route’ the icon will disappear.

Thanks for the explanation. I misinterpreted the Map Screen section in the user manual and assumed Mode = Profile. I didn't realize the hiker icon has different meanings depending on the screen you are viewing.

You know...that "might" be a nice thing to have on-screen actually. A "mode" icon at the top. Never thought about it but I think it may help at times...I know I've had a few times I've still been in vehicle mode and wondering why the GPSr was acting/looking funny...forgot to switch it to geocaching mode...DUH!!

The 'Mode' icon does not indicate the profile.
The 'Mode' that icon indicates is that you are on a 'Route' or 'Go To'.
It will always be the hiker.
If you cancel the route the icon disappears.
When in trouble or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout

On the map screen there are a series of icons across the top of the screen. One of them is "mode", which on my Explorist 710, always displays the icon for the "Hiking" profile. Even if I have the 710 set to the "Vehicle" profile or any other profile, the mode portion of the Map Screen shows the "Hiking" icon. This doesn't seem right to me. Is there a setting that I need to change so that the mode icon reflects the actual profile currently in use?
