Ok, since someone asked - here are some more pictures. These have to do with manually adding a Geocache or Way Point on the unit.

Great news to hear that there will be a Canada version....but I want it now! I have a sneaking suspicion it won't be out October 25th...and I can't wait.

I think there should be some Canadian beta testers.....I volunteer!

There is a Europe topo map for europe eX610. There is also the WW EU-basemap. Don't know, if there will be any routable map for european users.

I'll make one up in the next day or so. B)

Sorry guys,

I've been pulling some 14 hour days at the church so I've really not had a chance to play around with the eX610 - however, I've sneaking out on Friday to take a Geo-run so hopefully we'll be coming home with another 50 to 100 finds which should let really do a good test of the unit while we're doing some canyon running on our ATVs 😛

Also, I check out the TOPO maps on the USA, Canada boarder and there is no TOPOs in Canada on this map...

Later,David

Seems to me that the 610, 710 are designed specifically for US users. I assume anyone not from US should be buying the 510. How are maps loaded to the unit? If I want to load Canada topo, is there a way to add regions to an SD card like I did for the Triton?

Yes, you can add your own maps to either the SD or internal memory. David, can you check out whether the TOPO map on the 610 covers anything in Canada?

Secondly...I notice there is a groove on the back of the unit. Can you add some kind of fastener to it so that you can either clip it to a belt or attach a lanyard? I think Garmin units have the best fastening systems out there...though that was never a reason to actually buy a Garmin product.

That groove is for a mount, set to be released around beginning of November. You can clip a lanyard right to the loop on either the GC or the X10 models.

Is there a proximity alarm? I miss that from my old explorist. The Triton has one, but it has never worked on my unit.

YES! And it works, it's loud, and vibrates if you need it to.

Sockeye,

Let me know if there is something else that you're wanting to see and I'll try to get them for you...

I've herard about the new topo maps and I am very curious how they look. Could you make some screenshots of a mountain area? And maybe some of one of the maps of maps4me.net. I'd really like to see if there is a difference.

Sockeye,

Give me a day or two and I'll get some pictures posted with some other maps on it and I'll put some of yours on it, however, Saturday and Sunday are my busiest days here at the church...

Don't stop! It's looking good. Since I only have a 510, I haven't seen the topo map yet. Can you take some screenshots around N42 38.83 W074 01.94 for me? It's got a ton of terrain there, and would be a great representation.
