On a typical eight to nine hour winter hike I will go through two sets of Sanyo Enloops and one set of Sanyo 2700s. On one hike I even had to go to a fourth set.

I do like how quickly you can change the batteries and how quickly it reboots and locks on.

Not piling on, but my 710 chews through my eneloops or rayovac rechargables pretty fast.
I usually leave them in the unit but after reading this thread, I started taking them out and it seems to have slowed the drain somewhat, have not tested while out caching yet, but will check it soon....

Peter,

I sent the details to them, but I haven't received an answer. I don't want to make excuses for them, or for anyone else, but I do know that both Eric and Richad have been out of town almost constantly since the beginning of the year, so let me call them today and see if Eric has heard anything.

David,

Any news from your contacts at Magellan? Do you know if they are working on the problem?

Been waiting for this for AGES! I gave up on my 710 with the spinning compass 3 months ago and gone back to my Oregon. So just downloading it and will see how it goes.

The compass has been working perfectly on my 610. I am very pleased with it now.

I'm still campaigning to get the odometer upgraded. On my last hike at the end of eleven miles it was reading almost, not quite ten miles.

It's of no use to me getting it right on the computer after the hike. I need more accuracy while I'm holding it in my hand.

I have had not problems with fully recharged rechargeables on start up. On the other hand, while I could get eight hours on a set in the summer, the winter cold eats them up like M&Ms--two to three hours max. I generally go through at least three sets on an average hike. One thing I will say, I really like the way the unit locks in on the satellites after replacing the batteries. It's almost instantaneous. It was no where near that fast with my Triton.

Now we have two eXplorists with push-button control (310 and 110). I already wrote that switching between screens without the touchscreen is very difficult.

I asked the developers to use the buttons Zoom+ and Zoom- to go from the main menu to the map and to last dashboard.
These buttons are useful for switching dashboards. This is at least three times reduces the number of keystrokes.

If they do, every week I will go to church and put candles in their health.

Send me a detailed description of the problem that you're having with your GPS and everything that you tried and I'll forward it to Magellan to see if we can find an answer for you.

I have had some similar issues with mine. I found it to be related to my sd card. I reformatted my sd card, removed it, then reloaded the firmware upgrade. I then checked every function before replacing my sd card. I replaced, reloaded the sd card with all my tracks. My 610 has been working well since then.

Delete all of your user files (waypoints, tracks, routes, geocaches, and all images/ media. THEN redo the firmware installation. restart the unit, and THEN reload all of your data onto it. Tritons were notoriously picky for having data on the unit prior to an upgrade, maybe your unit is too.
