6 hours - that's also a normal map. The biggest of mine is about 1,8GB, lasting for about 20 hours. 18.000 map size. But this map is real nice! Microsoft Sat/hybrid with outdoor active(kind of topo map)
Steffen,
How are you setting your map size? The only way I've known how to limit it is through making sure I'm only doing small quadrants on the map - is there another way?
Found It!

Actually I did as suggested and rebooted. When I tried it again it allowed me to make a map. The first one was rather small, make 30 miles across. I tried to make another one, much larger, and it said it would be 6 hours! I let it run and about 2 hours from the finish it locked up my computer. I guess it was more than its brain could handle.
I have decided to wait and see if the maps already on the 710 work okay for me. If not, then I will create maps in a smaller version.

Did you set the setting/map size on 18000? Maybe, your map setting is bigger.
I believe the max setting for map size on MOAC for the x610 series is 15,000 (under Settings -> Map Size). I recall reading that somewhere. I don't know where. I use that setting and have created some really nice RMPs using multiple zoom levels of Google Earth. The largest RMP I've created so far is about 725MB - which covered a good deal of the San Bernardino National Forest. I've generated some really large multi-zoom 24Ks from MyTopo as well - without a hitch using the 15,000 max map size.

With MOBAC, you can add multiple layers for zooming in and out. You can even use topo maps, plain road maps, OSM and aerial views in one single map.
When you put your SD-card in the slot, the eX will create a folder magellan/maps. this is, where to put the maps. Enjoy your new toy!

Hi David,
Well I just created a map with MOBAC and put it in VP to look at it. Sure isn't the same as creating maps from the TOPO! series where the created maps change as you zoom in and out. Maybe I am doing the wrong map in MOBAC. I used MYTOPO.
And, one more (dumb) question. Once I create these maps how do I get them into the 710? Do I just load them on to the SD card and it will find them?
Thanks!!

Congrats DustyDew...
I haven't tried it, but from what I understand, the Nat Geo Explorer that came with the Triton's Adventure pack is out. As far as the State series - I have no idea, but I doubt it! However, MOBAC is a great program and now that the eX-Series is avaiable - something tells me we're going to be seeing some new options in the coming future.....

I have the National Geographic State Series. Can I add maps created from that (like I do to the Tritons)?
NOPE. Which is why i kept my t400.
Mobile Atlas Creator (MOBAC) is a fun program that can create appropriate maps (in RMP format) for the 710. But, as far as I know (and anyone please correct me if I'm wrong), there is no easy way to get the USGS quads into the 710. Looking forward to a solution.
EDIT: :woohoo:
** USING MOBAC YOU CAN SELECT SOURCE=MYTOPO AND CREATE RMP MAPS OF THE USGS TOPO MAPS IRRESPECTIVE OF THE QUAD BOUNDARIES. CREATE YOUR ATLAS WITH ZOOM LEVEL=16 AND THE 7.5 MINUTE QUAD MAP WILL SHOW UP WHEN ZOOMED IN WITH SCALE BAR LESS THAN 1/4 MILE. I AM WICKED HAPPY!!!

Merry Christmas! And welcome to the forum.
You are going to love the 710!
I have a Triton 2000 and the 710 is a huge upgrade from it.
The 710 is all I use now, driving directions are great then switch profiles to geocaching when I get out of the truck.
You can load maps from a lot of sources, I'm not sure about Nat Geo maps, I haven't used them myself.
The SD card is the best place to put any maps. Save them on your PC also.
Browse through the posts on this forum for info on maps, software, accessories and user tips.
Any problems or questions post on this forum, you will get some good answers to your questions, the Magellan reps pay attention to the forum and the people on this forum rock!
Have fun with your new toy!

I was so surprised that Navigator Guy got me a new GPS for Christmas!! :cheer: We have Triton 2000s and are happy with them, but I have been reading about the new 710 and may have mentioned a few times that "lots of people like the new Magellan".
I have read the manual and played with it all day! Haven't been able to actually go outside and geocache yet, but I think I have got the basics down.
One question - the manual says you can load other maps from Magellan.com on it. I have the National Geographic State Series. Can I add maps created from that (like I do to the Tritons)?
I am going to get a micro SD card tomorrow, because I assume if I can load maps that would be the best place to put them?
Merry Christmas!!!
