I am glad to hear that you were able to visit with Jeff. He's a great guy and being an avid Geocacher and Magellan USER he is an awesome advocate for us. I will tell you that Eric, the Outdoors Product Manager, is leaving Magellan to advance his career and being that he is a friend of mine I’m glad he’s doing so. However, this means that we’ll be leaning more on Jeff as our voice in the company. Luckily also still have a good connection with Richard, the GIS Specialist, Matt and Robert there so we will have several ears open to our concerns; however, Eric has been a real blessing and I’m saddened to see him leaving the team… 🙁

So, hang onto Jeff's card and contact number and please know that he's always open to an email or a call...

David

Said Hi to Jeff for ya David....he said he wasn't surprised LOL....kinda funny. Said he was kinda expecting a few people to come and chew on his ear.....which I DIDN't...didn't want to discourage anyone from getting one. I asked about the new screens and he didn't know what the heck I was talking about tho...wanted to see the higher contrast screens in the sunlight (was about 98 deg. and NO CLOUDS that day UGH!). Oh well...there was a couple people thinking about buying them and heard me say a few things and then I got pounced on. Had a couple garmin people around as well and was telling everyone how we can do so many things for free and a lot of other stuff and really got the hype a goin HA! Was funny too....

Had a great time. Took a pic of him in action but everyone on here already knows what he looks like so wont post it....

Jeff had some promo items (pens, geocoins, etc) and coupons for the iPhone 'Tough Case' last year.
If I remember correctly he had some kind of contest/drawing from Magellan.

Check out my report on the Tough Case;
Tough Case

I can't make it to this year's event. 🙁
Quite a few of my friends from New England are going.

You will have a great time meeting people from all over and seeing the latest gear & equipment.
Last year it was held at the fairgrounds in Warren PA.
I spent 4 days in the campground there with about 3 hundred of my new Geo-friends. 🙂

Boy, I sure am looking forward to this one the closer it gets. At first, I wasn't sure that I wanted to be somewhere with a HUGE amount of people in a "smallish" city but wow...as of RIGHT NOW, there are 1054 travel bugs dropped into this thing! UNBELIEVEABLE! Really starting to get excited. Just wish some of those on here could come so I could finally put a face to the names.

I was at Geowoodstock 9 in Pennsylvania last year and met Jeff from the outdoor team of Magellan at the Magellan booth.
He's a good guy but was alone and pretty busy answering questions, demonstrating the Explorist line and getting new users up and running.
If you have never been to a Geowoodstock before it's very busy with a lot of people, the Magellan people may not have the time for long discussions about bugs.

I would suggest you have a written list of bugs/problems/complaints to leave if it's too busy.
And mention you are a member of this discussion board, David keeps the Magellan people informed about what we talk about here, so they may pay more attention to what you have to say.

Meanwhile have a great time at Geowoodstock X, I sure did last year.
I spent a week in Pennsylvania meeting geocachers from all over the country and the world.
I met a dozen from Germany alone, a few from OZ & New Zealand, a group of ten from Brazil and I went caching for a day with two couples from Japan.

Also, if you ever want things passed directly onto the leaderhship at Magellan Outdoors, please feel free to email me at [email protected]; because I'm in email and phone contact with them several times a week and they're always wanting to know what is going on with these units.

HA! Too funny!

I guess I should also say that I would like to keep as close as possible the questions to pertain to either the GC or the 710 as I own both and am familiar with their operation. I have NO idea what the other models look like or how they operate (I'm sure fairly similar but given the discussions on here there is a bit of a variance of what issues people have with the 310's or others that I'm TOTALLY unfamiliar with).....sooo...

Also, I do utilize vantagepoint as well so if there are any q's that route then ok as well....

Yes, Jeff Caulfield will be at the event and he's looking forward to your questions. Just to let you know, Jeff is very aware of the issues that are going on with these units and he's always ready to listen. I can also tell you that he's on "our" side when it comes to things like this, so go with your list and the more specific details you can give him the better.

Have fun at Geowoodstock and tell him I said hi! He won't be suprised since I just got of the phone with him, but please tell him anyway.

David

Ok, I'm going to be attending Geowoodstock X in Sellersburg, IN this weekend and "supposedly" there will be a Magellan vendor booth. I already have a few questions of my own for them but am willing to entertain a few extra questions if anyone has any to pose to them. Don't get too crazy on me or I'll just crash like a computer LOL. Also, there's no guarantee that the people manning the booth will be techies' or really know anything at all about them so I guess buyer beware.

I know of a few things like the battery bleed off problem that we've been having that I'd like to know about as well as the darn thing shutting off on me whenever the batteries get to a certain charge level (EVEN WITH THE DANG THING PLUGGED INTO AN EXTERNAL FULLY CHARGED SOURCE...UGH!!) that really stinkers me bad....

Anyone think of anything else? Just offering...can't promise..
