I've had this happen twice as well. Each time, I looked for the notes file and it was nowhere to be found.
After the first incident, I added a couple of found items and had another strange occurrence - the log file was back with the found data from before as well as some found data from over a week ago (thought I even deleted all the caches since then.) When I was out yesterday, I entered one "found" field note and saved without adding notes. From this, there was no notes file present.
I was going to do a little more testing to be able to create a consistent process in reproducing this situation but thought I better chime in while the topping is here.

Since loaded the latest firmware update to the 710 I have had two instances (not every time) where the ‘Field Notes’ file has disappeared on connecting the unit to the PC.
There are two messages on the 710 after connected to the USB port and pressing ‘Connect to PC’, that I was not conscious of with the previous firmware version. 1-Waiting for connection. 2-Writing GPX. There is obviously some routine running at this time, doing what I’m not sure.
I never experienced this with the previous firmware and there are no other changes to the PC or set-up.
Has anyone else had the Field Notes file disappear?
