After you click ‘Upload Field Note’ button the new field notes are uploaded to GC.com and you are told how many records were successfully uploaded.

Then click ‘Return to Field Notes’ and you are provided with a list of all the uploaded record; name of the cache, Date, Log type (Found, DNF) and the Actions column where you can select Compose Log or Delete Note.

Select Compose Log and a new screen open were you will see what you had written on the unit. Now compose the log, if you dropped in a Trackable you can select it and when you are happy with the composed log click ‘Submit Log Entry’. The log is then attached to the cache. While in this screen you can click on cache name which will take you to the cache page.

You will then need to click ‘Return to Field Notes’ and repeat the process for the next cache, continue until all field notes are completed. If you have duplicated field notes or for any reason you don’t need to use the field note just click ‘Delete Note’.

Only your latest logs (field notes) exactly as you typed them on the unit will be uploaded into a temporary storage area on GC.com (they are NOT added as your log to the cache).

Click ‘Return to Field Notes’,you can now work through them one at a time, compose the log the way you want it and when you are happy click the ‘Submit Log’ button.

When you upload them, all you have is the GC# so when you you ‘return to Field Notes ’ are you able to look at each cache pertaning to that GC# on GC.com while you are editing the notes ?

Your short notes are fine. All you have to do is turn on Vantage Point and then plug in your GPSr. It will ask you if you want to upload your logs to geocaching.com. Say yes. This does NOT upload your notes to the cache page or increase your number of finds. Instead, it enters your logs as "field notes."

Look at "field notes" under "Your Profile" on the geocaching.com home screen. You will see all of your notes arranged according to the cache they belong to (mine are usually a simple "found it" smiley with no text." You can then select each note, add some text for the log, and then submit it to the cache log all from that one page.

Then, when you go back to Vantage Point, you will see a box asking you if it's ok for VP to delete the field notes from your GPSr. Say yes, and then you will never have to worry about them again. No need for an "end of file" marking like +++++ or anything. The only thing your GPSr will remember is that you HAVE found that cache in the past, which comes in handy for the sort and filter option.

Thanks for all the help I guess I didn't explain my self very well, I realize if I going to make all my log notes in the field on my 710 then that would be fine but I usually just make a very short not on my 710 when i find a cache ,just enough to remind me about anything different or noteworthy about the cache and then when I get home and hook up to the computer i go into my log notes and log them one by one on GC.COM.

However I have figured a work around the text file and what I do is when I log my last find for the day I just add a bunch of symbols like (++++++++ )
behind my notes and then the next bunch of caches I log will be easier to find. or if I forget to add the symbols I just need to edit my last log for that cache and do it then
Thanks again

I believe I've been having the same issue when logging finds. GC.com sees all the log entries I've entered, not just the 3 or 4 from today, for example. So then I have to scroll down the screen for the truly new logs, past the previously entered logs, to enter them. I don't think this happens when going through VP to enter my logs, and that's what I think the last post was refering to. This happens even after deleting the logs.txt file before going out caching.

So Garcor, next time out, instead of logging your finds through Geocaching.com directly, try opening VP, plug the unit in and Connect to PC, then see if you get a popup window asking "There are new logs on the unit, would you like to publish them to Geocaching ?", or something to that effect, and click Yes. You can still enter the logs, but I think all the old ones don't appear. I think you have the option at the end to delete the logs.txt file when you're done.

One thing first though, if you have the option checked off on the unit's Tools/Settings screen for "Use SD Card", uncheck it, so that the logs file and geocaches go on the unit and not on a SD Card. I wouldn't get the popup box if the box was checked. The unit still sees all your maps and media even if they're on the card.

When you mark a cache as found, the ‘Logs.txt’ file is written and the software uses the ‘Magellan_Geoccahes_Extension.gpx’ file as the reference. The MGE.gpx file stores all previous finds since it was last deleted therefore all those previous finds stored in MGX.gpx file will be written into the newly created ‘logs.txt’ file.

The presents of all previous logged caches in the file caused no issues when logging your new finds on Geocaching.com. The unit software and Geocahing.com software interwork and only show the new logs that have not been logged on GC.com.

You do not need to look into or try to edit the ‘Logs.txt’ file; the software sorts it out for you.

what I mean is when I delete the logs.txt file and save the blank file and yes you are correct it regenerates the log.text file and when you clear the Magellan_Geocache_Extension.gpx file then you clear all your smileys off your already found caches.

What I would like to do is leave the found caches in tact but remove the txt log so that when you go out the next time and find some more caches and log your finds that they are the only ones showing in the log.txt file

What do you mean by this - "I have tried doing that ( deleting the‘logs.txt’ file ) and then save" - save what to where?

But, you have to clear the Magellan_Geocache_Extension.gpx file, otherwise it seems to regenerate the log file.

I have tried doing that ( deleting the‘logs.txt’ file ) and then save but the next time I hook my 710 up to the computer to put my new finds in GC.com all my old logs are still there and I need to scrole down to the last one that I have entered to GC.com the previous time.

I have tried deleting the logs and deleting the logs.txt but when I hook back up to computer the next time they are still there and that is what I would like to clear out so that the only logs that are in the ‘logs.txt’ file is the ones I haven't entered in GC.com yet.

I’m not sure I understand exactly what you are asking but in you delete the ‘logs.txt’ file in the Geocache folder that will remove your latest logs from the unit. It will not delete the found status of any geocaches.

The ‘Magellan_Geocache_Extension.gpx’ file in the same folder hold the status of the units found geocaches.

Is there a way to delete logs after you post them on GC.com

I have tried deleting them out of the noted and saving but the next time I go into logs they are still there. I have tried putting a line under the last logs so that my new logs for the day will be under the line but it doesn't seem to save it with the line there
I realize I can delete everything in the log folder but I would like to be able to saved the caches that I have found without the notes.

Any help here would be apprechated.
