It would appear to be a software issue.
When something similar happened to my 710 I went in the USR folder of the unit and deleted the UGDS.BIN file.
That file sometimes gets corrupted somehow.
When you unplug the unit from the PC it will generate a new UGDS.BIN file while indexing data.

When in trouble or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout

On a recent hike, I was somewhat surprised to discover that the next destination was over ten thousand miles away. It seems that somehow an incorrect location was being used.

The dashboard display at this time is shown below:

The location of the point is in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Madagascar. This location does not appear in GPX file for this route.

On another occasion, the track recorded while the unit was stationary in suspend mode (accumulated overnight) consisted of a cluster of points around the unit position, with a single point in the middle of the South Atlantic, probably at latitude zero, longitude zero. This has never happened again.

Has this happened to anyone else? Could it be a hardware or software problem?
