I've been thinking  , with this unit I don't need parking coordinates so I will just dump them, or not load child waypoints. 😉
That way I can add waypoints for multi-caches or whatever with out worrying about any max waypoint number. 😛

I loaded 7284 geocaches to the sd card, no problems using GSAK.
Waypoints maxed out at 2000. Those are child waypoints, parking, trailhead etc. waypoints.
All the geocaches loaded fine.
I got no images through GSAK, but did get attributes.
Through PQs in VP I got no attributes or images to GPSr.
Tomorrow I'll try uploading tracks & routes from GPSr to VP.
I'll also see what the limit (if any) is on geocaches loaded to sd card.

OK, I've put this thing through it's paces and everything works as advertised.
The only thing I haven't tested is the screen in bright sunlight, it's been raining or overcast every day since I got it.
I attached images, videos and audio notes to waypoints, geocaches, tracks and routes. 🙂
I can access them on the 710 but when I tried to load from GPS to VP it (vp) went into 'initializing' for 45 minutes. 👿
I gave up then. 🙁
Maybe VP just can't handle 8856 geocaches?
The 710 does!
If so what's the point in making a GPSr that can & has to link to VP to use some of the best features of both?
I'll try it later this week with fewer caches to see if it will work at all.
So in summary - This GPSr is GREAT it's fast, accurate and amazingly easy to use.
The only problem is Vantage Point!!! 🙁
Vantage Point still sucks. 👿
Hey Maggie -- fix or replace VP!

I was on a business trip to north of Boston and happened to notice that phild31 cached in that area. We got together for an afternoon of caching (in the rain). Phil had just received his new 710 the night before. He loved it so much that I only got to hold it for about 30 seconds before he wanted it back! Most of our caching was driving around to P&Gs, in the rain. The 710 was quick and accurate on turn by turn directions.
geocaching name: cindy&randy
I (Randy) am the guy, and therefore entitled to hold and control the TV remote and of course the GPSr.

I installed the update, then had to take the batteries out for it to reboot.
Is that a cold boot?
It rebooted with the batteries back in and works fine with the update installed, in fact it runs a little bit smoother. :cheer:
So far this unit is excellent in everything I've tried!
The Maps4Me topos run nice and look great on it. 🙂
I'll have a more detailed report on it by Sunday night, if it ever stops raining here. 🙁

I think i'll show this post to my wife! B) It was more of an educated guess really, they don't have the option of failure at this point. They know this too, which is why TODAY they released updates for the X10 series. Not bad.

This was my rant a few months ago, now I can update it and state categorically that Miniwhip was 100% right!
Of course I didn't follow my own advice and pre-ordered a 710.
Well, this is the best unit from Magellan, right out of the box, I ever got! :woohoo:
And I have had 5 other Magellan GPSr.
Everything I've tried on it has worked perfectly!
I'll try the stuff I haven't tested yet this week-end but I'm now confident it will work.
I'll never doubt you again Miniwhip! 😛

SockeyeThere have never been wiser words spoken. I'm 100% confident that they will deliver this time.
What makes you 100% confident they will deliver this time?
They never delivered on the Triton series, the GC still has real problems and now they think we can trust them to deliver what they promise again?I think I'll wait for all the bugs, bad software, broken promises and futile upgrades are proven fixed before I spend any more of my limited money THIS time!
If it wasn't for this forum and the triton forum both the T2000 & the GC would be next to useless with the non-existent customer support I've gotten from Maggie over the years.
So far the exploristXL is the only unit that has always done what was promised, except for the minor problem that they had to recall and replace every one of the first units sold! And that was their best release of a new unit!
I'm sick of being an unpaid beta tester for them.
Well, I feel better now after that rant. 😛

First, UPS delivered it at 6:30pm on the 3rd, I opened the box and started it up about 8:00pm.
My only complaint is it came with no micro SD card, I had to run out to Staples and buy one.
The only problems so far were self-inflicted, I didn't have GSAK set right at first to load caches correctly.
It took 3 minutes to index 8855 caches after I disconnected from PC.
Start up cold to full sat. signal in my living room was 45 seconds!
Some menus don't have scroll buttons, you slide your finger up or down the screen to scroll. If you do not lift your finger it will scroll fine, lift finger or tap and it clicks what ever is under your finger. I set it to make clicking noise to get used to how the touch screen works. It is similar to an iPhone screen, after a few hours of caching I was using it with no trouble.
The driving directions work perfectly, the speaker is loud enough to hear while driving in a rain storm & over talking. It reconfigures the route in a few seconds when you go off course.
Pick a cache to 'go' to and turn on 'driving' profile and you get driving turn-by-turn. When you get out of the car set profile to 'geocaching' and go find the cache.
I loaded the caches to internal memory, waypoints max out at 2000. To add a waypoint I first had to delete some waypoints. I'll be trying loading to the SD card and see what happens this week end.
The batteries lasted about 12 hours total use, compass & barometer off.
So far this 710 does everything as advertised. :cheer:
I took one picture in the rain, not bad.
That's Bigrock95 on the left and Randy of randy&cindy holding my umbrella.
Nice meeting you Randy, sorry for the cold rain here in Massachusetts.
