Thanks, we did have fun yeserday.
Have the Exp 610 going, took some time to set up but it is smooth. Loaded about 300 caches and 100 waypoints, so far so good. This unit so far is what I have come to expect from Magellan. I have been using their GPS's since 1998 and there have been a few bumps in the road. It seem some time and effort went into this. Now I have to get out and use it for the really big test. Hopefully this weekend or maybe Thrusday evening. I have 6 caches on my place I think I will find tomorrow. 5 of them are archived for the hunting season but I can still go the their location.

I just put the 610 manual on my e-reader. Too many toys..

9:06 AM Got a text. Well, my Grandson just got a deer so I'm going to drag it out of the woods with the ATV.

Good luck, have fun and stay safe 😀

I think clyde has got us nearly there. I checked 4 caches out of 4,700 that I knew had pictures and all but one loaded ok.

The one that didn't load correctly had 2 pictures. The first one was there, but not the second one. The second one just appears as a large frame with pixilated blocks in the middle.

Still - a huge leap forward and I am very happy.

Ah - I ran VP before I did the export in GSAK. VP created the directory. I'll add to the thread on the GSAK boards to make sure that it creates the 'Geocaches' directory...

Tried the new version of GSAK but no pictures were downloaded. I checked the folder where they should have been but there was no 'Geocaches' directory under Images. So I created the directory and re-ran GSAK and the pictures came across. Appears there are still bugs. If the directory isn't standard, then does VP creates it when used?

Clyde is pretty useful in tracking issues down. You might want to see if it is possible to isolate the issue to a particular cache. Then, does the export screw up if you GPS->Send Waypoints just that one cache? If so, then it might be helpful to provide Clyde with GPX containing the problem cache(s) that GSAK x-fered to the x10.

If you want to try to track the issue down yourself...

The cache page images are copied to: :MediaImagesGeocaches

The XML in the GPX should reference the image like:

img src="HDDMediaImagesGeocachesimage.jpg&quot

where "image.jpg" is something like "20101124_03159661.jpg"

In that case, make sure that "20101124_03159661.jpg" is present in :MediaImagesGeocaches ... If not, then the image will not appear.

I just tried the updated GSAK, I loaded 4100 caches to my 710 because that's every cache not found by me with-in 50 miles.
It's what I always have loaded, my default. 🙂
The description pictures loaded on some caches and not on others. 🙁
It is better than it was, at least I'm getting pictures now. 😛
When I have the time tomorrow I'll try just 100, see what happens and if it works correctly keep increasing the # of caches to see if it has a limit before screwing up.

GSAK Build 32 seems to have addressed the x10 picture export issue...

http://gsak.net/board/index.ph.....opic=16220

From what Clyde was saying, he was treating the x10s just like the Explorist GC. Unfortunately, the x10 expected the images to be in a different directory on the unit.

What I usually do now is create a GSAK file out of PQs then just send to the 710 from GSAK.
Doing that is faster than using VP.

And I don't care about having the pictures anyway. 😛

When I want to include the pictures I just download a Pocket Quary straight into VP and then transfer the caches to the eX610. I currently have all of my Pocket Quaries set to 900 caches (because of the limit in my T400s) and it works fine everytime. I don't bother with the Communicator and seeing how the system works, I only drag and drop the GPX files onto the unit when I don't care if I have the pictures!!!

If you watch the process - the pictures aren't downloaded inside of the GPX - VP is initiating an additional process to get the pictures!!!

Well, loading Pocket Queries to VP has nothing to do with GSAK.
And loading straight from Geocaching.com via 'Send to my GPS' has nothing to do with GSAK.
When I download GPX files to my pc then copy & paste to the unit one at a time it's fine, when I did 100 GPX files, all with pictures, some loaded fine & some didn't. Again, nothing to do with GSAK.
Those three ways to load caches all seem have problems with pictures.
It has to be a problem with the unit, Magellan Communicator or with GC.com!
When I use GSAK I get no pictures at all.

I think It's a problem with Magellan's programs, it's the only thing in common with all four ways to load caches.

So, for me anyway, it's still a very minor inconvenience.

And it seems that this issue has nothing to do with the unit either. It may be a problem with GSAK that copied the eXplorist GC format for downloading pictures, however the 610 uses a different file managing process for the pictures.

Could be solved soon!

Yes, it's a bit annoying but is a minor inconvenience for me.
For now, on the few caches I need the pictures, I'll have to double check them or just use my iPhone.

This is now getting a bit annoying

GC1J6TW & GC1J6V86 - clear picture just like on the cache page.

GC1J6T6 & GC1J6VG - nothing there!

Loaded direct from the GC site using "Send to GPS" function.

Ahhh - now we seem to be getting somewhere!

dwcarr1 also reported that he uses the Pocket Queries direct to VP and not via GSAK as I have been doing.

So it seems that GSAK is the common denominator that is causing these problems

But - now your issue of the inconsistency. I'll try to download your caches tonight and see what happens.

I've been playing with the unit loading caches different ways.

Pocket queries to VP & then to 710 or straight to gps from GC.com are the only ways, so far, I can get the description pictures onto the 710.
But it does not load all of them, some caches I get the pictures and some caches I don't.

These three of my caches have the same picture on the cache page but they load on my unit 3 different ways, none correctly.
One no pic at all, another the pic is showing partly, the other it seems like a background picture.

GC1J6TW
GC1J6T6
GC1J6VG - oops, just edited this that's a G not a 6 -

This is another of my caches, it loaded it's pictures correctly.

GC16V86

All were loaded by PQ to VP to 710.
It seems to be random.

Ha! It's just a hope step and jump away

I managed to get the pictures to show in the description when I downloaded the caches directly from the GC site using the "Send WPT to GPS" function.

However there is no way I can get it to work with a GPX file from GSAK or VP. I can see the pictures in VP - but they won't appear on the GPS.

I will have to continue to play around with the settings. I mustn't have the right set-up somewhere.

Thanks for letting me know.

I downloaded those two caches to my 710, no problems, the pictures show on the description for both.
I think I'll see what the driving directions from Boston are like! :silly:

Right now I've got 3730 caches loaded through VP.
I had 7,572 loaded a few days ago with no problems.
Once I reinstalled VP for the third or forth time it's been working fine for me.

I don't know if the larger memory of the 710 makes a difference but it seems it shouldn't.

It couldn't use my map for driving directions, oh well.
But it did give me interesting screen shots! Laugh [br]

Ok - I downloaded your cache (via the "Send to GPS" button on GC)and sure enough I can see the picture just like in your screen shot above.

I then downloaded one of my caches (again via GC) and I could also see the picture - so far so good as long as I download them individually.

Then I downloaded these 2 caches and one came up with an empty frame of the picture and the other with just a document symbol?
http://coord.info/GC2GZE5, http://coord.info/GC201KV.

Would you be able to download them and see if you get a different result?

Also - how many caches are you downloading via VP? I have downloaded a file of 4,500 caches (about 43mb) and I suspect that it is too big for the 610 to read fully. (ie I think it is dropping the pictures)
