I used to get the same issue with my Triton 400 on occasion. Device manager was how I fixed it too. Unplug the GPS and delete the drivers from the computer, then plug it back in and it should reinstall it's self.

What OS are you running?
If it is Windows, did you check Device Manager for any errors in Portable Devices or USB controllers?
Did you try a different USB port on your computer.

I try to connect my 510 to the pc, while using vantage point. When i connect the GPS, and hit the connect to pc option. My computer reads "external device malfunctioned" (not recoginized) Any ideas on what is going on here?
