If you looked at the map when you have good TOPO maps loaded under satellite maps you will see a 3-D image on the screen where the elevations are raised and lowered. However, this has nothing to do with the 3D options you're talking about. The options changes the image from being flat on the screen as if you where looking straight down on a chart to looking at the image at an angle like the display on most car navigational GPS's. Basically this is incoorporated for that reason since the Touch units will do Turn by Turn Navigation.

the 3-D feature is the biggest reason I bought this one, I'm thinking I have made a mistake.

This is from the Magellan site on features of the 610;

"The eXplorist 610 packs the most accurate maps into the palm of your hand. The World Edition map allows for 2D or 3D viewing angles. It includes a complete road network in United States, Canada, Western Europe, and Australia and major roads throughout the rest of the world and provides cartographic orientation in almost any location. This unique, preloaded map also includes water features, urban and rural land use, and a realistic shaded relief background. The eXplorist 610 also includes Summit Series USA, a highly detailed topographic map based on 1:24,000 scale source maps. The maps includes contour lines, land use areas, trails, waterway7s and points of interest. Locate the nearest trailhead. Search for the nearest bike shops, fuel stations, or potable water source. Navigate safely in 3D perspective view while knowing the boundaries between private and public lands."

I suppose I should try it somewhere with some elevation changes to see if it has any use in the real world. :blush:
It's kind of flat around my house. 😛
I'll be in Maine and New Hampshire this week-end & next week so I'll give it a try in the White Mountains and report back on how it looks.

I only tried the 3D a couple of times, in my opinion it doesn't do much for me.

It does not work in vehicle profile, it does work in Geocaching profile but I never tried it in any other profiles.
It works with the Summit series maps, the OSM maps I got from Sockeye and satellite image maps I have loaded on my 710.

Here's some screenshots;

In 2D;

Now in 3D, you'll notice the map scale disappeared ;

With the satellite image it doesn't show enough detail to be any use until you zoom in but when you zoom to 200feet on the scale the satellite image goes away.

I believe you need an image map enabled for this to work.

I see my 610 has a 3-D setting but when I select 3-D it doesn't look 3-D, am I missing something?
