Ah well, I guess VP is not the one stop software shop I hoped it would be.

Here is the rule of thumb. If you want to use it to get somewhere, it is a route. If you want to see what the GPS has recorded as to where you've been, it is a track! No, you can't create tracks in VP because there is no reason to. What you're wanting is a route. Now, you can take a track and convert/use it as a route to follow a path that you've already been. So, it sounds like you're doing what you want to do.

Vantage Point does some things pretty well but it's very limited in what it can do.
For a free mapping software it's pretty good.

If you upgrade the 610 with the City Series map the GPS will then give you driving directions like a 710 can.

Just type in an address and go.
That's why I never bother creating routes, my 710 navigates the roads for me.

Well, when you run a route it will take you from one point to the next.
With a track created by the GPSr it's like a breadcrumb trail left where ever you went.

I have my 710 set to make a point every 10 seconds.

Here's an example of a route I created going from point to point and a track created when I was walking in the area.

The black are the trails in the forest on the map, the blue is a route I made and the yellow is a track of me walking on & off the trails;

First, you cannot create a track on VP, you can create a route but cannot convert it to a track on VP.

I usually don't create routes with VP and I save tracks on VP created by my GPSr or created on another mapping program like Google.

The Digital Globe satellite maps are dated, the downloaded maps I've got were the same as the streaming maps at the time of the download.
I have no idea how often they are updated.

First, let me say this is the best free software ever! Wow, it makes the whole Magellan experience worth while. That said, I've hit a wall of sorts.

When one is creating a track, is there any form of auto fill when following a labeled road like there is with bike route toaster on Google maps?

Can I pause the track creation to do something else for a moment and get back to it?

Can I edit an existing track by deleting certain sections and adding new ones?

Does anyone know why the aerial maps appear dated? There hasn't been snow in the San Bernardino mountains surrounding Big Bear lake for months. If I subscribe, will I get more current maps?

Thanks in advance
