Yes, after you go through the "My Finds" and mark them all as found, I would delete the the log file and start fresh...

Well that update will be ok when it comes in. It'll be an ideal fix to the situation. I like having all the caches in an area loaded, as Doris hasn't found some of the ones that I have (I can help her look or decide which to do next), so I can hide my finds to clear up the map, or show them to make the screen look really cool !

Question ... once I've loaded that My Finds gpx file and gone thru them all, do I have to erase a specific file so as not to have VP ask to publish geocaches everytime I log on ?

I love how the MagicMaps Canvec maps look, I've renamed them as .poi maps, which appear in a separate list from the MOBAC maps. And they can be selected on or off globally, rather than one by one like the Triton. Much more convenient. The MOBAC Earth maps are as clear as on the Triton as well.

The unit is ultra-fast to load pages, clear and bright, and the touchscreen works VERY well. Our laptop has a touchpad, and I operate the touchscreen in exactly the same fashion and pressure as I do the laptop, so it was a very easy adaptation. I don't miss the Triton at all ! And I also don't miss the eX210 brick that saved me $ 180 for this unit !!!!! 7 days from order to send brick to receive new unit, very fast turnaround.

Thank You Magellan, I AM a loyal AND happy customer !

Denis,

Basically there is only one way to do it at this time and that is to load you "my finds" GPX file into your GPS and go through and mark every one of them as found. With 222 finds it shouldn't take very long. There is another way, however, it isn't available yet! Magellan is working on a firmware update that will allow us to load our "my finds" GPX file into the GPX and it will update all of our stats for us. But, we'll have to wait on that. When I first got my 610 I sat down and went through and marked each of my finds as found, however I've given up on that for now! I normally just clear my cache stats before going out so the counter starts at Zero and I only load caches that I haven't found. Back when I had only found 50 to 100 caches I really liked keeping my found caches on my GPS, but there comes a time when it just isn't worth it anymore....

Also, I found a problem with this on the 610. You see, at you log your finds the GC code and some other information is stored in a database and the larger the database got the slower the unit got and I was at about 1000 find then, so again I just don't worry about it. Well see how it works when the update comes out.

Ok, so I get that you can have your lifetime finds accurately displayed on the unit. Is there a way to have all of your FOUND caches to appear on the unit as smilies ? Like, the ones I've found before getting the 610 ? I noticed that I had logged a cache as found, and it appeared as a smiley on the Map screen. Can we have ALL of our found caches appear as smilies ?

I just read this thread again, so here's some thoughts on the logs/field notes.
If you deleted the newlogs.txt file on the 710 you cleared all the logs from the 710.
Where did you download them to?
Where does it show every log you created?
On GC.com delete all your field notes/logs after logging the caches.
On VP you should do the same thing, otherwise VP will download all your logs that are on VP to GC.com!

Actually I do clear the Geocaching stats before every trip out

I am having trouble doing this! I delete the newlogs.txt file on the 710s file, but every time we go out and find a few more caches and I download the field notes it shows all logs I every created! Yes, I can weed through them to the new ones, but there must be a way to completely clear all the found/DNF logs from the 710??

Actually I do clear the Geocaching stats before every trip out and I reload it with unfound caches, but I take care of that when I make my PQs. But if the GPS wants to keep track of my total stats, why not have it do it right? If it can pull the stats from "My Finds", which will only take a couple of seconds and there is no reason that it will have to use any of the storage currently used for caches - why not let it! Plus, it will only have to calculate it when a new "My Finds" GPX file is put on the unit, after that it can just add to it. It would be nice to also have a current day finds total as well. When we go out on our all day ATV, Dirt Bike or Jeep runs it sometimes gets hard to keep track of how many we've found and there have been several times that the numbers push us to keep going! On the days when we only find 10, 20 or even 30 then it really isn't a big deal to count them, but on the days of 50 or 100+ I'll like the GPSr doing the counting!!!

Not so much that I want/need it there... more the fact that since it is there I would like it to be correct.

I also only load unfound caches on my GPSr, hopefully Vantagepoint will hold/count your found Caches, but allow you to filter them out when uploading to the unit.

The last time I used VP I could not load anything from the 710 to VP. What I found is that when I load a cache from GC.com straight to my GPS and there is a VP file also on the 710 VP won't recognize it and crashes. So, I no longer use VP at all!
I use GSAK to load PQs to the 710 and pray that I'll never be forced to use VP!

I know that I can get the stats and charts once I get back home, but when we're doing a high speed ATV, Dirt Bike or Jeep run and we're shooting for 50 or 100+ caches in a day I like to be able to keep up with the number of finds we've done that day, therefore, it is really nice to have them on the GPSr....

Wouldn't it be simpler to just reset the count to zero and mark each find as found during your run?
At the end of the run the count is whatever is on the GPSr as found.
Or will they let you manipulate the stats on the unit to see only today's, yesterday's, etc. finds?

Plus I use more than one GPSr to find caches, my find stats are on GC.com automatically no matter if I use my iphone, eXploristXL, GC or 710.

A fun and interesting feature for a GPSr but I still would rather see the very few faults of the X10 series addressed before adding a feature that I, personally, would have no use for.

I don't want to sound like a wiseguy but why would you want to have your find count on your GPSr?

Your 'My Finds' PQ on GSAK will give you all of your stats, graphs and maps.
Plus, on your Quick View profile on GC.com look for Statistics for up to date graphs of your finds.
Personally I only load caches I have not found on my 710 and delete them after I find them.
Would the 'My Finds' PQ be added to the geocache file?
Would that then reduce the number of un-found caches I can load to the 710?
Or are they going to increase the maximum for geocaches?

I would rather see any future updates address adding scrolling buttons and increase the maximum number of waypoints to at least 5,000.

Just so you know, Magellan is working on this. Actually, from what I've been told - in the coming update you'll be able to drag and drop your "My Finds" file into the unit and it will set all of your stats for you and will then continue to track them for you afterwards...

I found the simple way of making your Explorist 710 show your lifetime Geocache Found Count, I assume this will work on all of the x10 models but I know for a fact it WILL NOT work on the ExGC.

WARNING: Do this at your own risk, I take no responsibility if you mess up your Explorist. I would suggest making a copy of the original file to your desktop in case something goes wrong.

1. Attach your Explorist 710 to your PC and let it detect the mapped drive letter.

2. Navagate to the APP folder and look for the file Settings.xml

3. Open Settings.xml in notepad and look for the following line:
0

4. Change the 0 to your found count and save the file.

5. Unhook your Explorist from your PC and let it reboot.

If you go into your Geocaching stats you should now see your proper number of found caches. The unit will not know which caches you found, but at least the count will be correct.

(I also have figured out how to change the counts on the ExGC but the writeup will take me a little longer to do as I need to borrow it again to get the exact names.)
